"Springfield's clearly only been coached to play zone defense, and so putting pressure on Willamette to pass the ball wasn't really possible." From the linked article. Wow, could that be possible and as a prior poster (Wbbfan1) said, not good for womens' hoops at all.
How would you know what they are coached to play? My daughter is a member of this team they have played man to man ALL year have the number one rated defense in the entire state at any classification. Please do your homework before popping off. They did exactly what their coach told them to. Why should a 6'6 post player chase players around the perimeter?? The wanted to draw Mercedes out of the key to give their players an advantage at the rim. On another note most teams stall once they have a lead not when it is 0-0!!

The "only coached zone" comment was from the linked article, it was not something that was "popped off" here.

Most folks don't seem to remember the era of UNC's four corner offense and killing the clock or even more Ashland University's efforts in the 1960s to keep games under 10. Legend correctly or incorrectly they won a game 4-2. I can't find the proper search to document it.

Tennessee vs Temple 11 - 6 on December 15, 1973.

Back in the early 1900's Potsdam Normal HS coached by Professor Blood was scoring upwards of 100 points per game.....against colllege competition!

I do agree that the poster was ill-informed about the website from which the article came from (Deadspin, which isn't a serious website at all, and the articles are just commentary and opinion) and jumped to a pretty bad conclusion

I think most people here think the fault lies with the opposing coach for stalling, not Mercedes' team for letting them. They ultimately won, so their "strategy" worked.

Although I'm betting an athletic 6'6 player chasing players around on the perimeter could come up with more than a few steals...:)
