Memphis Post Game Thread

What about Diarra? He seems to be a steadying influence, seems to me to run the offense pretty good and and doesn't make many mental mistakes.

Agree with you on the cupcake early schedule.
He‘s allowed to have a bad game. Newton had plenty of them.

First, the good. The team showed character and fight. Second, the bad. Memphis provides a blueprint on how athletic teams can attack us all year. Finally, the ugly. The nearsightedness of many on here is incredible. Sure, Mahaney has struggled. But Danny and Luke brought him here for a reason and they know, if some of you don’t, that in order to make a run at a three-peat in March, they need need the Mahaney from St. Mary’s to show up.

He was hot garbage in the first half at both ends. Only really came alive the last 4 plus OT. Clutch at the line which is not nothing but he needs to stop thinking he's Newton and play within his limits.

The real concern is Mahaney, he needs to show something soon. Dribbling idly too much and a target on D.

The reality is that many teams RIGHT NOW are pretty much equal to us, especially after losing NBAer's Cam, Clingan and Castle and our All American Newton. We are still under construction with freshman, new starters with our All American Karaban.

Memphis was ready and we seemed rusty and out of synch. Typical of new players learning to play with each other facing a talented D1 team. I did not see failure, just uncertainty and executional mistakes (both fixable).

Just saying, this is not our February Team. I just hope fans didn't miss the preview late in the game. Championship DNA was still on display tonight.

Some of yall gotta log off the internet during games and give yourselves an hour or two to logically think after the game before you start posting nonsense on the internet.
Point out the nonsense please. Blanket statements like this are not helpful.

If you don’t know what he’s talking about he’s probably talking about you.
Or you, most likely. But thanks for the comment. Asking someone to point out what they are talking about is an issue?

Yeah it’s always good to change the pace from scoring and rebounding to getting ragdolled and dropping passes. Really throws your opponent off

Take a deep breath. We probably don’t win without him last year. Not sure we need to burn the entire program to the ground.

The lineup should be Reed, Karaban, Stewart, McNeeley and Nowell. Bench contributions from Ball, Johnson and Ross. Need to shorten the rotation. Some may say, Nowell hasn't played enough to start yet. We've all seen him play. He's our only true point guard and plays both ends of the court. Mahaney should get Joey C. volume of minutes.
You're sitting the Big East 6th Man of the Year?

Memphis’ guards attacked the rim and played aggressive on ball defense. They put the refs in positions to make calls and it took us an entire half to settle down

nothing amuses fans of other teams more than seeing a losing team's fans complain about the refs.
And this bothers you why?

Perhaps they, like you, don't understand that players have bad games, coaches have bad games, and refs have bad games. It's all entertainment. Let them enjoy. UConn fans are true fans. We don't pretend to be holy. At least speaking for myself.

rewatch the game - Memphis came in with a plan to flop - not just #4 who did about 20 Kemba head throws but also their bigs.... falling down all game - it was done with the plan to get samson out and it worked and they got so many weak calls.

It was all that I hate about basketball.

Also UConn's D is far off championship level.l

It’s one thing to argue a call.. but Dan Hurley likes to verbally abuse the refs. If you read his lips, at one paint he’s yelling get away from me, don’t talk to me.
You’re never going to get a positive outcome by trying to demoralize another human like that in any situation.

100%. I am not blaming the refs, but the free throw discrepancy was disgraceful and the two fouls at the end did in fact change the game. They called an offensive foul on Taris for the same exact thing the Memphis player did to Solo. It’s those types of inconsistencies that does cause for blame.

we were slow on 3pt closeouts, and they flopped on all contact. That's on us for being slow.

We need 1 guy that can go get his own. We don’t really have that right now. Nowell has attacked the rim nearly as much as most the perimeter guys and he has played a fraction of the minutes. That’s why I wanted Meleek or Acaden. I think Braylon and Adams will be great, but they aren’t really guys that will break down their guy off the dribble. Tristen and Cam were so crafty and Steph was so explosive. We need that guy bad on this team.

I love Hurley but goddammit.

Why was Stewart sitting all second half and OT after killing it in the first? Mahaney should have been riding pine a lot more too.
Mahaney was glued to the bench the final 10 minutes and OT, that was telling. Danny sees what we all see. We'll be fine at the 5, Samson just needs ot go back to what he did last year. Hoping Nowell can contribute, other wise we're in a bit of trouble against any backcourt like Memphis'.
