And neither Buck or Faris are a 2 guard .

I guess you missed the long thread about Dolson and how she is dirty player. At least we are critiquing a basketball skill.
Actually no I haven't seen a thread about Dolson on the Summitt. During game threads I do see comments about how she fouls a lot without getting called for it. I have not seen a thread trashing her like this one is trashing Meighan. And yes it is trashing a player when almost every post in the long thread is something negative about Meighan's play and character. I really don't get the point of it since she wasn't being recruited by UCONN and has never even played UCONN. She has never hurt anyone. I know Meighan feels very badly about her play during some games this season. It just looks like the board is kicking a player while they are down. I admit that I am overly emotional right now (got bad news about a friend today) and being overly dramatic but I am done posting here. I don't need the negativity. Thank you to the posters who have been welcoming and I hope UCONN has no injuries the rest of the season.

Well, there was a long thread about it. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.

I'm sorry about your friend. Maybe reading the boneyard is not a good idea, huh.

No one is calling her names, we are just talking about her game.

Maybe you should read The Summit more so you can speak more informed about what gets posted there, like the thread about Dolson and the many threads about Geno, making fun of his heritage.

The whole team is better with Ariel at pg. She knows where and when to pass the ball. As for Simmons I think she is improving her overall game. Her passing her defense are better.
Massengale got off to a slow start at the beginning of the year, but she really seems to be coming on. Looks like she'll be an AA before all is said and done.

Sorry about your friend! Smmons seems like a good kid. THis got nothing to do with trashing th eperson just an opinion about the way she plays basketball. And by the way, what is she down about as she has been starting for the last few games and TN has been winning very convincingly.

I saw part of the Tenn-Arkansas game; Arkansas is no world beater. The Razorbacks average 62 points a game, that they scored 72 on Kentucky says that the Wildcats defense is suspect.

Yes I agree. I have seen her passing is outstanding. She can also shoot. She has a high basketball IQ.

They (Kentucky) press the whole game. Press is great when getting turnovers. The other side is it can also give up layups if the press is broken.

I saw Meighan in the high school all-star game in San Antonio two years ago. I think she hit her first two shots, both outside jumpers, and had the crowd oohing and aahing. I thought the LVs were getting a good one. As the game went on, she took more and more shots, many of low percentage, and rarely passed. I thought that Bria looked to be more of a team player and Chiney played with more energy than anyone. I gave Meighan the "Most likely to jack up 25 shots" award. She seems to be doing exactly that.

Was Simmons a PG in high school... or a SG that was forced to play PG last year at Tenn?

She was either 24 or 26 in the rankings. Some players are underrated. I don't think she was.
i think she was #4 per Blue Star or Peach State or someone. i'm not sure where she will end up but we do have a long way to go.
Well, there was a long thread about it. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.

No one is calling her names, we are just talking about her game.

Maybe you should read The Summit more so you can speak more informed about what gets posted there, like the thread about Dolson and the many threads about Geno, making fun of his heritage.
you forgot the threads where they call UCONN "U-Cheat" and refer to Geno as a cheater and low class individual.

anyway i re-read the entire thread and the worst i could find is that a few posters said she lacks discipline, she's not improving, she's more of a role player, she lacks coachability, her shot selection is really bad, and she's not a good defender. how is that attacking a player's character? and not every post in the thread is "trashing her". there are a good number of posts that talk about the positive attributes of her.

She brings a competitive fire and when she's hitting her shots can be an asset. She can get shots off anywhere at any time. She is a talented one on one player who loves to shoot the ball. She is lightning quick.

as doggy pointed out, "Last year she had 104 assists and 104 TO's. This year she has 27 assists and 35 TO's. Her passing is NOT better." look at her numbers - last year she averaged...

11.8 shots/game in 26.3 minutes/game shooting 41.8% overall with 33.7% from 3-point at 13.5 PPG. and in 2012...
10.9 shots/game in 26.5 minutes/game shooting 33.5% overall and 30.7% from 3-point at 10.9 PPG

i don't think even the most homeristic fan can say that her numbers are better this year. it's not to criticize her character or her person, but the numbers are what they are.

one last thing i'd like to point out is fans who are as passionate as UCONN fans are (i can't speak for tennessee fans) do that all the time. in the past we talked about why Lorin Dixon couldn't score more. Why Charde Houston never seemed to "get it". How Heather Buck has been struggling between her ears with confidence.

and we've talked about MANY of our bench/reserve players (Ashley Valley, Stacey Marron, Tahira Williams, Cassie Kerns, Meghan Gardler, Jacquie Fernandez, Heather Buck, Michala Johnson and Lauren Engeln) over the years and dissected whether or not we thought they'd ever be part of the regular rotation, or whether they were forever resigned to be end of game bench players.

talking about their strengths, weaknesses, mental approach, intensity, etc etc. was never about if they were good kids or had good character. it was about how they fit into the rotation (if at all), what they could contribute, and we even speculated what their expectations were in coming to UCONN, and if they envisioned only playing mop up minutes most games.

Don't know about the other recruiting services, but she was ranked 24th by Hoopgurlz and the 7th ranked at her position. She was not highly recruited. They had her being recruiting by LSU. Tennessee appeared to come in late.

It was Candace Parker. That saw Meighan Simmons play in Texas. Then Candace Parker called Pat Summitt.

Similar to what I've seen. Two images of Meighan stick in my head: 1) The stomping and jumping around like she's throwing a tantrum when she wants the ball. She's did that a lot last year. 2) The game were UT was at Vandy. She got some hard contact under the basket and went down. She lied there in pain holding her leg or knee while the rest of the UT players huddled up with each other 15 feet away. No one came over to her, no help, no concern...she just stayed on the floor by herself until she was able to get up. I can't imagine a UConn or ND player not instantly coming to the aid of their teammate. Never. I sensed then that there has got to be some internal chemistry issues. Then the early cut from USA basketball and you have to wonder whether it's her all around talent or ability to work as a team and a unit.
My opinion is not based on who I think she is as a person. I'm mature enough to understand what you see on a tv screen or from the stands is a snap shot of a competitive athlete playing a game. I can also understand being protective or defensive about a player on your favorite team being attacked on a personal level. I see the same thing going on with Diggins. The criticism of her takes an ugly turn. Adult men calling a 20 y.o. player they don't know a selfish "me first bitch" is ridiculous.

She had to play out of position some. When Ariel was out or needed a break early in season. I think Simmons will be alright. She is doing a lot better on defense. She is fearless and has a fire about her game. If she gets hot shooting look out.
seems to be a big "if" this year... id like my chances...

the out of position excuse doesn't work that well this year.... intact i think with the the ball in her hands more she likes having control of the ball and gets in a better swing if she has it more often... with Messengale she seems to miss shots she would of made last year... by rushing... jumping...

she has room, time and a need to develop her own identity as a shooting guard, which i expect her to by her senior year.

people are hardest on hot commodities at major programs like Simmons, Stricklen, KML, Dolson, Hartley, Sims, Griner, Moore, Charles.... its easy to do that, but some develop quickly, instantly, medium, or slow... its part of the fun of WCBB to see them come to fruition

Vol fans have been whining about players playing out of position for the last 4 years. BH is not a prototyoical PG. KF is not a 4. The fact is Simmons is a liability even when she is playing her natural 2 position. Move on.

Some players are just hard workers regardless of position, and make good things happen.

No.
Not even remotely.
i doubt the board would through one of their own under the bus... like they throw Simmons. and Vice versa on the Summit.

Who would... fans hope players turn it around, develop, and turn into stars that lead their team to a pinnacle victory.

its natural, but not always truthful.

Dolson needs time to develop, just as Charles or any other post from high school does... except Griner... she is a phenom, just as Moore was from day one...outstanding.
