Sometimes a picture hits home more than words do:

i think there's a ring missing... i can't tell the dates, and the ring on her pinky may not be a NC ring, so there may only be 5 rings there. as most UCONN fans know, we have 7 NC's! soon to pass Tennessee as the team with the most NC's in history! :)

2 NC
4 Final Four
that ring on her pinky, maybe another final four ring from the 2006-2007 season. Maybe?

3 Final Four
that ring on her pinky, maybe an elite eight ring from the 2006-2007 season maybe?

That picture is so "Meghan" .....love it! She needs to have the [in?-]famous bobby pin made into a ring also :p

RE: the pinky ring, it looks like it says Final Four to me.

The pinky ring does say Final Four. The bottom ring finger ring and bottom pointer finger ring say National Champions; the blue stone ring also says Champions. Could that be a Big East championship ring?

oh... what you and Marie said makes sense. if those are HER rings, cleraly she won't have 7 NC rings as she hadn't been in school from 1995 thru 2010 (at least not in college lol). so yeah, all the "ring"-wear during her 4 years at UCONN - very few other teams can boast that kind of bling!

I didn't know that they awarded championship rings for things like final four or conference championships. Anyhow, here's a pic of a guy who knows something about rings.

I not only like the post, I think it is worth a reply. The only athlete to (almost) run out of fingers. Greatest winner of all time ... bar none.

Yeah, but Bill needed 13 years to amass all that jewelry. Meghan got hers in four. ;)

Of course, Bill won a championship as a player-coach. Meghan ain't got nothing on that.

Absolutely. In fact, hardly a year doesn't go by when someone doesn't post that such and such a team going to the Final Four is getting their fingers measured for championships rings; sometimes brought up as an example of hubris, sometimes brought up an example of a motivation by the coach. In fact, the real answer is a bit more mundane. Because every participant in the Final Four gets a ring, every team has every team member measured. They don't yet know whether they will be the FF ring or the Championship ring, but all get measured. I stopped at the Jostens booth at the convention in Indianapolis to chat with them about the process, and they confirmed this with me.

Not only does she have the rings, but she is a character! I heard she she is begging Geno to come back next year,in any position where she can continue to collect NC,Big East or where ever we may be;) and Final Four rings to do her other hand and 10 toes

She is working on being part of that. There are going to be more and writing resumes for the other assts insisting they should be a head coach at schools across the nation

On the subject of "championship" rings, I recall what happened at the championship celebration dinner in Southington a couple years ago. In addition to the appetizer of prime rib followed by a feast of oratory, there was the presentation of NC rings. (Not sure if they took them back to give them out again at the SuperShow, or vice versa.)

Anyhow, coaches got theirs. YAY!

Players got theirs. BIG YAY!

Water girl, ball girl, managers, etc., got theirs. Another YAY!

So far, so good. Everyone who was part of the TEAM gor a ring.

Then AD Hathaway got one. Hmmmm. Mild Yay! (Not part of the team but part of the "program," in current jargon.)

Straphangers next.

The then university president was next to step up to get his wcbb NC jewelry. Hmmmm. OK. (In the interest of full disclosure, note that he was not administered a sobriety test on the spot before snagging his ring.)

Finally, one for the guest speaker for the event, Doris Burke.

Huh?

I don't know to this day whose decision it was to give her a UConn NC ring but I, for one, was flabbergasted, at first. Then, the more I thought about it, I was disgusted. In my view, egregious pandering.

I hope they are less generous at next year's NC championship dinner.

Kib,

I wasn't sure that was true 'til now. The folks on the Checkerboard often reference it as if it were true.

In any event, it Seems odd.

Sorry to disappoint but the greatest winner of all time was a St. Louis native named Lawrence Peter Berra-- the greatest catcher of all time.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yogi was certainly a great ball player. Greatest catcher? Some might make a case for Johnny Bench or Roy Campanella, but I won't go there.

Yogi played 19 seasons and participated in 14 world series. The Yankees won ten of them. That's a lot of rings, that's for sure.

Russ played 13 NBA seasons (12 NBA finals), won 11 championship rings. To warm up, he won two NCAA championships and an Olympic gold medal, events Yogi of course could not compete in. Russ won an NCAA championship (1956), an Olympic gold medal (1956) and an NBA championship (1957) in a period of 14 months. Three teams, three competitions, three rings. That's tough to match.

Let's agree to acknowledge Yogi's excellence and concede to him the ranking of "most quoted left-handed hitting major league catcher of all time."

Yeah, but he never said what he said just to quote him.

He is done with his ring collection, Uconn will only grow to 13 or 14 rings before Geno is done

Yogi won a lot of rings, but to paraphrase him, his entire past is now behind him.
