McNeeley GTD / Minutes Restriction vs Marquette

This is smart. I was hoping for this in the DePaul game but even when cleared, you don’t want to rush it. This injury can continue to impact you even when you begin playing again.
 
Curiosity question-Have not seen this mentioned over the last month or so. If it was-I missed it. Was the recent ankle sprain injury the same ankle that Liam injured while working out at home earlier in the season?
 
The off the bench minutes restriction is expected. It will probably be like that for a few games to get him ramped up.

That’s the usual Hurley process for guys returning from injury.

Wow, Marquette 6 1/2 point favorites and that’s WITH mcneeley possibly being an option tonight -not good. Hopefully we don’t get blown out of the building.

The line I saw had - 6.5 yesterday and moved to - 5.5 today.

It started around 8.5-9.5 and dipped once McNeeley was GTD.

We better hope Marquette lays an egg.

I have a feeling this team comes out firing on all cylinders. Marquette has been our main rival the last few years, it's in their building, McNeeley likely back, and we're decently big underdogs. I'll bet Hurley is in their ear about how nobody thinks we're winning this game.

When was the last time UConn was this much of an underdog? Not last year. Probably not the year before either. 2021-2022? Which game?
 
Us being a big underdog is deserved. If I could bet in CT, I'd take marquette and give the points all day.
This is their super bowl game of the regular season, prime time, Shaka and their team will come out of the gates smoking. Lets not forget we were down 14 to DePaul.
That being said, it would be a hell of a statement win to somehow pull this off.
 
I’ll never understand minutes restrictions. Either you’re 100% healthy or you’re not. He shouldn’t play until his ankle is no longer a consideration.

Under these circumstances he should most def be on a min restriction. He's working his way back into playing shape. We need him on the floor even if it’s for 15 min. Training staff knows what to do.
 


I could see McNeeley fighting this like MJ did. Ya I'm sure the target is 15 minutes as the game goes on plans can change.

If he plays and I don’t think he will, the reason for minutes restriction is conditioning. Not that he would not be able to fight through it, but at what risk? I don’t know the math but I am certain the risk of injury goes up as the level of fatigue goes up.

I think I read that his agent/parents want a second option. Not sure who the Einstein Yarder was who posted the risk of re-injury on an ankle sprain is not a factor. This is not a rolled ankle for goodness sake, it is much worse and re-injury risk is high if he comes back so soon. I really cannot imagine how often they due an MRI or some type of scan during the recovery time. My guess is these scans as the healing gets close to the end can be evaluated differently from one doctor to another. They are looking at it so closely and I don’t think the UConn doctors would purposely suggest he is more healed than what they actually think.

But there is a reason why most pro athletes regardless of team get their surgeries from one or two surgeons for every type injury. There is the foot doctor in Green Bay who probably looked at Donovan’s injury scans. Some of these guys are just way better and looking at an MRI or an injury and making better prognosis’s. The other specialists that come to mind is Neil Attrache(?) LA and Dr Andrews in Alabama.

I hope I am wrong and if Liam plays it will only be because there is no one saying he actually cannot….and he decides to play. But I think the best we can hope for is that he is in uniform and Marquette has to wonder wether or not Hurley is going to put him in.

And even if he does play we would be silly to think he is going to pick up right where he left off.

Conditioning? There are so many whistles and time-outs and commercials. These kids are in tremendous shape. I get it, players get tired. But a kid can still play much more than 15 minutes even after being sidelined for a while. That's my take.

I believe we were favored in every game last year other than at Kansas, no? It’s probably been a long time since we were 5+ dogs.

McNeeley call at 7:30 so anything swirling here is fiction.

Kid spent a month not being able to run.

Andre Jackson had a hand injury and went through this same process lol
