I won't speculate about weight being a causative factor (oh wait, I just did). Hopefully he recovers and is able to contribute.

So Whitmer the starter.

Backup in the beginning of the season Cochran due more to Cochran's being in the system for a year.

One of Boyle, Lagow, Taylor fighting to be the third QB that will challenge Cochran as the season goes on, and of course everyone chasing Whitmer.

Kobe Bryant, Dominique Wilkins, Dan Marino, and David Beckham all ruptured their Achilles.

Was weight a causative factor for them too?

They must have some faith in either or both Lagow and Boyle, otherwise there is no McCummings move. One of those guys will challenge Casey for the number two spot.

It's been said before, but with three QBs in one class, the coaches can afford to use one as a third string, redshirt the other two. Then redshirt this year's 3rd stringer next year.

If we are down to our 3rd stringer, and there was any debate about whether to start SM or a freshman. Start the freshman, he can gain valuable reps, you get an idea of what he can do when the lights are on, and you can still redshirt him next year.

I assume you're joking, because there is something all those guys have in common when their injury occurred, and that's their age. McCummings is 20 years old for goodness sakes.

Scott Burrell had archiles issues in college. As in Greek mythology it is the weak point of a great athletes body.

I agree, he might have an advantage because he offers a skillset (running) that the other QB's do not have. If there were any desire to have a change of style QB to keep the defenses off balance Taylor would be the guy.

You think gaining 30 pounds caused that much stress on his achilles? Really? It took a 5 second google search to find many college players tearing their Achilles over the years.

One of the best (and worst) things about message boards is anyone gets to share their ignorant opinions.

You already doubled down, if you want to let the stupidity ride: Micheal Crabtree was 25 when he tore his. Was it his age or weight?

You don't even have to look at the nfl. Josh Clemons, the rb for Kentucky tore his achilles this year.

You got me. I'll never be able to prove that on the first day of practice that a player who showed up fat and out of shape and was forced to run drills for a position he had never played before would not have torn his achilles had he shown up at practice lean and fit. But then again, you took a tongue and cheek speculative opinion and became the board's Barnaby Jones. So in the future, I'll make sure to run my ignorant tongue in cheek opinions by Barnaby the Wing Man. Fair enough?

In srqhusky's defense, I think he was making a further joke about what a (anonymous) coach joked to the press last year when McCummings showed up out of shape. That coach joked that McCummings would soon be on the offensive line the way he kept gaining weight.

Just an observation.....for someone who gets so bent when P is criticized.....you sure don't hesitate to rip the players.

You are correct in I am being hard on Scotty but
Go research my posts and verify this dude. I praise many players on the team as well as our recruits. What Scotty is doing is wrong for him and for the team. He is wasting his talents. A year or two ago he came in great shape. Now this. As an upper class man and leader it's disappointing. He is hurt and I wish him a speedy full recovery . Hopefully he can turn this injury around and come back the way he was. Sometimes it takes an injury to realize you weren't doing what you should be. (See Michael Pineda)

There have to be a lot of muscular and biomechanical stresses changing positions from QB to WR. More running, harder cuts and maybe even different shoes and wraps required. Any of those issues including fatigue, indecision or weight and balance issues. Bottom line is he was willing to accept the challenge and caught a bad break doing it. I hope he can recover and give it another shot.

Showing up over weight and out of shape means you don't deserve to see the field until you're back in shape and ready to go. It doesn't mean you deserve a serious injury that will cost you a season, at a minimum. Especially when your weight did not cause the injury (or else we'd see a lot more lineman lost to Achilles heel injuries.)

You took a cheap shot at a player immediately after we learn he's done for the year. Yeah, I'm the bad guy.
