This is great news. To be honest, I wasn't sure if the program was waiting for the right individual to become available, or if we weren't going to hire a defensive coordinator. If it was the latter you'd have to question how serious the administration was about maintaining a competitive football program.

Brock was elevated to defensive coordinator on January 4, 2023, just days after serving as the defensive play-caller in MSU's 19-10 ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Illinois.

Powered by Brock's play calling, the Bulldog defense limited a potent Illinois rushing attack to just 22 yards on the ground, the only time the Ilini have been held under 100 yards rushing all season, and totaled 10 tackles for loss and recorded a school bowl-record seven sacks, which were also a season-high.
:D

One box he clearly checks, participation with big time football; SEC, P12, MAC and B12.

I think this is better than recycling an old DC coach that has bounced out of the top. Brock is the right age to identify with the kids, remain hungry to prove himself (to get that next big contract) and bring the 24-7-365 effort it requires today.

2023-present: Mississippi State (Defensive Coordinator)
2022: Mississippi State (Linebackers)
2020-21: Mississippi State (Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers)
2018-19: Washington State (Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers)
2016-17: Bowling Green (Special Teams Coordinator/Linebackers)
2014-15: Texas Tech (Inside Linebackers)
2013: Texas Tech (Defensive Quality Control)
2011-12: Baker University (Graduate Assistant)

Looks like a good hire, provided he overcomes the culture shock. Anyone know the backstory as to why he's out at Miss State?

Like linebacker and ST roles. Need both to step up.
