Maryland Lost! (Merged thread)

Hahahahaha!!!!
Maryland's loss seems to have revived our enthusiasm for SCHADENFREUDE, an old buddy who has made frequent visits to this site over the years. You may recall that the word refers to taking pleasure in the failure(s) of others. j66kicker says it best.
The danger in being (outspokenly) pleased with the Terps' crash landing is that the scale of justice may shift against us, so that we, too, will be made to suffer. On the heels of a big game with Baylor, we cannot afford to poke the blindfolded lady too sharply.
And yet . . . It's impossible not to feel good when Brenda once again snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. She hasn't won an important game in more than 2
decades. Her BRAIN and former assistant Jeff Walz is still given credit down here for MD's one and only NC.
There's a lot more stuff you could say about Ms. Frese, but who dares take the chance that fate will glower at us at the worst possible time? Not I.

I sort of agree. What impresses everyone is that they were watching MD blow away over matched opponents and suddenly they ground to a halt. It is easy to score a hundred if the other team wants to run with you. If the other team wants to take 20-29 seconds on every offensive possession, and makes a point of getting defenders back to slow down the running, getting to 80 can be difficult to impossible. And if you are used to scoring at will and a few shots don't drop, frustration can set in.

I think Vic created the slow pace and just waited, MD started to miss, and then imploded. So the defense wasn't brilliant, it just created the environment and the tension that affected MD's composure and performance. It had happened to MD a before this year but their opponent hadn't been able to score enough to make it stick.
Could have it been psychological warfare? MD was so used to seeing the scoreboard turnover like a slot machine they became frustrated and forced things a bit which resulted in misses. interesting!

So it's okay to think it, just not gloat in it? For the sake of karma, I can live with that.

Teams that rely on scoring almost almost never win a 6 round tournament because they will inevitably have a bad shooting game and lose. Defense isn't about touch or feel and it's rare to see a good defensive team choke.
Well, except for ND in 2018, which had practically zero defensive quickness but could outscore virtually everyone, including a defensive minded MSU team.
