Marquette Scouting Report

We won’t shoot 12-19 on threes again

Marquette cannot guard Tarris Reed, and everybody knows Marquette cannot guard Tarris Reed. I’d expect quick double teams so Tarris will need to be ready to find the open man, and guys have to be ready to catch the ball and hit the open shots

Ben Gold was invisible last game, but I’m sure Shaka will plan for him to pop out for threes when we hedge. Especially when Tarris is in there as he is very slow to recover

Need everyone to play strong perimeter defense again. We blew up almost everything Marquette wanted to do last time, can’t take defense for granted when you’re playing Kam Jones

Connecticut has not been kind to Marquette. I don’t think they’ve won here since we came back to the BE. Let’s keep the streak going!

Zubi had 13 rebounds, 6 offensively against Marquette. Not only could Tarris eat in the post, but he could scrape O rebounds all day against their flimsy front court. He may have some challenges defensively against Gold if he's spacing him out, but I would let Beaker beat us all day and that would be last of the worries. If Ben Gold is their go to, we are in a good spot. Play off him with help, and if he happens to have a hot start from 3, adjust.

Five wins in a row to close out the season. If we do we become a nightmare for any team unlucky enough to draw us in their bracket.

Five wins in a row starting tomorrow and the mojo will be strong.

I cannot say I'm not concerned about tonight's game, but it should be winnable. This is as close to a make or break our season game as I could imagine. We beat them at their house 7 games ago, but since then, we've dropped three and they've improved. Last time around, Tarris barely played, and Samson went 4 for 4 frm the field and 5 for 5 from the line, but only had 3 boards if memory serves. Liam didn't play, but Solo had his best outing as a Husky going off for 25 points (including 7 for 9 from 3) and grabbed 11 boards.

I think that limiting Kam Jones is still the key to a win. If we can keep him in check with 15 or less along with fewer than 5 dimes, we should be in good shape.

I'm looking for more points from Tarris on more minutes than he played last time around, and a strong contribution from Liam. Can't expect Solo to go off like that again, but with Liam's contribution, Reed's increased production, Alex's return to normal, and 15 points or so from Solo should do the job.

"We need Big East guys to play in this league moving forward". I think he gets it!

They haven’t improved - they have beaten 4 bad teams (DePaul, SH, PC and Gtown) along with getting shellacked by Nova.

This is the same Marquette team, and a game we should absolutely win. Agree it’s a massive litmus test to understand what we are made of, maybe the most important of the season.

"should be winnable"?? C'mon Rich Z, great test, we will need to play well, but I'm hoping you and all the Yard feel any game is winnable. Need +++++NRG from the Yard and all fans.

Tonight will be interesting. Some good breakdowns of MU and the matchup here.

One thing to note though is that Gold broke a finger the week before the last time MU/UConn played and was also playing with an undisclosed lower body injury and hadn't really gotten back to healthy until 2ish weeks ago.

The line is now -3.5. Will be watching at home and screaming silently.

I'm not buying the Beaker finger injury theory as much as I'm buying it healed quickly against PC & Sorberess Gtown.

Thought this one would open up 3.5.
