Marquette Post Game Thread

Pure guts from every member of the team (even Mahaney). Hass could barely jog at the end but provided enough competency handling the ball to pull it out. Stewart hit big shots in the first half and played well enough at 4x backup point forward to put some much needed space on the scoreboard. Ross was a stud defensively. One of the best all around games of Samson Johnson's career. Karaban put in 15 and hit a big 3 which was great to see. And Solo simply might be the best shooter in the country when he's playing his game. Cut out the stupidest stuff and play okay defense and he'll be all-conference+ for us

Ball was the super star of course but credit to Stewie with those early killers, Johnson with solid minutes, Alex with finding a way to find points when his 3 wasn't falling (and that buzzer beater) and Ross for doing everything he could to slow Jones. And Hass for pure guts.

How was this not a pretty win? UConn beat a top 10 team on the road, without its best player and with his PG hurt, and led wire to wire, with the lead never getting closer than 6 after about the 4 minute mark of the game.

My wife came in to ask how game was going, late in 2nd half. I told her we had 23 turnovers already. She asked how much we were losing by. I said we're up 10. She said, "That's impossible."

And as far as the Johnson/Reed and Ross/Stewart debates go, just play the guy who is better on any given night. Tonight it was Johnson and Ross.

We should to play Johnson and Reed together for stretches. It gives the team a different look on offense, and keeps our guards fresh.

Know both are hugely valued in the NBA, but so are defense and ball handling for a 2 guard (and he’s a bit undersized for the 2).

Does he get drafted this year simply because he can shoot so well, and has athleticism to show potential as a slasher? Junior year Solo with the haul coming in would be a wild ride

If he keeps this up late first round doesn’t feel too crazy

Solo Ball had 25/10 tonight. Tell me he’s not a superstar like our biggest names of the past, Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton, Donnell. This is right up there as far as I’m concerned.
Love solo, huge game, huge couple weeks. He still has to do alot to be mentioned in that company.

What a win! 25 turnovers is insane. So is shooting 63% from 3 . Solo bailed us out time after time, what a game for him! Beating a top 10 team on the road in the conference is as tough as it gets. And we did it without Liam. I can squint and see how this team, if it puts it all together, is supremely capable.

We saw tonight that we can play without Diarra or Mahaney’s on the court. That will be easier when Liam comes back.

I like Samson, Karaban, McNeeley, Ross and Ball as a potential go too defensive line up. Ross can cover anyone 1 through 3.

Ball is rebounding. This is the most excited I have been about this team this year.

Mahaney may have to really fight for PT when Liam returns.

I hope I am wrong about when he is going to come back. That hug between him and AK at the end of the game was a we got through it buddy, let’s have a good week of practice and get ready for St Johns.

What a great win!!!

Shaka’s defensive game plan on AK was wild. Even when he set a screen and tried to flare out of it to the wing, they were grabbing a handful of jersey so he couldn’t disengage. Shaka is just made for the BE and the way this league calls games. Every MU game I watch, I understand why he didn’t make it at Texas. This style just doesn’t play nearly as well outside of the BE.

Though you could see the traits of an excellent shooter, I never thought Solo would be as efficient as he's been this season!!

If Bill Rafferty was doing the game, we would be hearing daggers all night.

Seemed like every 2nd half three was a momentum killer.

Solo seems very mature too, listening to him being interviewed post game.

Woooooooo!!!

I better never hear another word uttered about Solomon Ball.

I'm not usually wrong

If I was told 25 turnovers, no Liam, @Marquette, Reed, Jr. would be a nonfactor, I'd never guess we won. Luckily I saw the game, we made amazing shots and amazingly bad decisions on passing (slip it to Johnson at his ankles?!?).

Solo may got NBA if he keeps this up.

I can see a universe where Ball becomes a postseason killer, McNeeley is the new Castle, our centers both mature rapidly and keep growing into their roles, and this team makes a run in March.

Not sure it happens but it’s more believable now.
So many big shots this season he's hit when the team has been either trailing, tied, or clinging to a lead. Not just a great shooter but a great shooter under pressure.

Obviously Solo.

But many unsung hero’s. Stewart’s cold blooded start. Ross’s defense. Samson with a phenomenal game and made all his free throws. Tarris provided value! Hass gutted it out. AK played 40.

And how about our coaching staff. First game all year we essentially switched 1 through 5 on defense most of the game. I loved that. It fits our pieces so much better.

Even if he could, I’d rather him come back and show that here as a junior. Then go to the NBA ready to make an instant impact.
