When the Hawk doesn’t fly we don’t soar.

Ps. I think Joey C is waiting for NCAA to excel. Bigger audience for his marketing.

Needless to say, love them both and it’s Final Four Time.

Pss. Coach Hurley give AK more minutes if you want to advance!!!!!

How have we not learned that Clingan plays well in spurts and doesn’t have the stamina to play very extended minutes?
He was playing zone for 6 minutes and had the TV timeout coming up. He’s a teenager

.-.
Now he’s really doubling down. I like it, but any disappointment and that seat is awfully warm.
I'll be really interested to see who's in our 4 team pod. but with a 3-6-11-14 we should make it out. If not .........

We needed to play a bit better in the 2nd half. That's all there is to it. Small things we could've changed. Zone worked, but I liked when we got out of it after Marquette found the play to beat it. Good defense down the stretch in man, especially Newton on Kolek. Bad offense down the stretch. Especially Newton.

Think both teams were exhausted at the end from the intensity level of the game. I like attacking an exhausted defense on a live ball, but we didn't make the play. Hawk got fouled on the last shot, but they'll never call that on a last second shot. He was atrocious all night. Started forcing it at the end, but we didn't reward him with a make when he was unselfish.

Sanogo and Clingan both provided huge mismatches as expected. Kept us in the game. Gotta make our FTs.

Can't call the TO with 4 seconds. Only option there is to call it right as he gets over the line with ~7-7.5. Thing is, then Shaka can set his D, run an inbound play, trap the ball in the corner, etc. As it was, their D was not set, especially down low. Sanogo was open but Newton didn't see it - which is OK.

Calling or not calling a TO there is pretty much a coin flip of which is a better outcome.
I think their D was all set on covering the perimeter especially Jordan. Newton passed the ball to Jordon who had no chance to square up and get a decent shot off even as quick as he is. I feel Newton needed to take the shot if he didn’t see Sanogo. Bad decision on Newton’s part, but he didn’t have much time and had there been a timeout Newton would not have been in that position. He obviously didn’t want to take the last shot and I wonder why? Was he not confident or was he told to get the ball to Hawkins? Me thinks after Hurley’s benching he was afraid to make a mistake and do anything other than give Hawkins the last shot. In any case, they will go over what happened that last play and if it were to happen again I would hope for a different outcome.

I am heading to bed, but I am proud of the fight this team put up tonight and they gave it their all. Just came up shot against the #6 team in the nation. It was an exciting game and win or lose these are great games to watch. Hopefully next time it ends with us on the winning end. Go Huskies !!!!

He’s also a behemoth of a human who has never played big minutes, especially at this level. He played well and we got what we needed from him.
Yes, but this is lose and go home. Managing his minutes now is not something you do

Now he’s really doubling down. I like it, but any disappointment and that seat is awfully warm.
There's been a tremendous amount of talk since day 1, more talk leading up to now, and this sure sounds like doubling down. This type of stuff can lead to the coach and players tightening up, let's hope it fuels them instead.

If we make it out of week 1 it will be a pleasant surprise. Coach hasn’t shown the ability to get his guys to show up when the bright lights get even brighter.

It has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard come from a coaches mouth. Ed Cooley is the pinnacle of mediocrity and he's lecturing another fan base to accept mediocrity. Probably just to make himself feel better.
Agreed. It was just ironic

We have improved every single season he's been here. Now it comes to winning in the tournament, which starts Thursday. If we go out round 1 you won't find anyone here defending him
How were we better this year? Worst finish in conference and lost same game in the tournament.

.-.
I’m very much a fan of not using that timeout in most situations. But in the unlikely scenario where your 23 year old senior point guard doesn’t realize he actually needs to run while playing basketball, I suppose you should probably call it

When your best player has a very off game, it's going to be hard to win. Hawk missed a number of wide open threes. Joey C had two very clean looks down the stretch and couldn't hit one... that's the way it goes.... shots made (like the bomb the Marquette guy made as the clock was running down) and shots missed, like a number from Hawkins and the last two from Joey C... We are still a threat in the Big Dance... I hope!
Yes.

One thing that this game demonstrated was that we could have basically no-shows from two of our most important players and still be in position to beat one of the better teams in the country.

I personally believe that our ceiling exceeds any other school in the country but I also believe that all too often our team's collective basketball IQ is barely at a high school level, and that by allowing the opponent to dictate the pace of the game, a lesser opponent can remove most of the advantages we have.

I am looking forward to the tournament, primarily the officiating as this season gave the appearance that in Bid East play UConn needs to play with different rules on foul calls than the remainder of the conference. I cannot think of one Big East game that we played this year where the calls were fair.

We have the ability to make a run in the NCAA's. We just need to get our heads in the game.

UConn won a lot of games against good teams by 10+. It’s an odd season.
They just don’t get good shots at the end of close games. That’s been one of the major issues with not having a true point guard to run the offense.

Is this really your argument defending why a guy who had 7 and 5 in 10 minutes, was +10 and was in the game during a huge run didn’t play more?
Uh…yes. Clingan has been kept in too long and made mistakes, and he doesn’t finish nearly as strong as Adama does. Adama was the least of our issues today.

This game proved how different we are without Andre on the floor. If someone can find our plus minus numbers I bet his was through the roof.
