I was hoping that at least once Hurley would pull a Calhoun and get in Hawkins face and challenge him. Stop coddling all the time. At least once, challenge him to step up and be fierce!

That’s the biggest thing I miss about having a coach like Calhoun.
Did you not see him do it with Newton and Sanogo. If he did it to Hawk too, half the board would call hom unhinged and blame him for Hawk playing "tight."

Not sure what play? The guy who shot from almost half court was wide open and he had to put it up and he certainly was capable and proved it with nothing but net. That was not luck, just a guy who put up a pretty shot.
Joey C and one other were in his face

Then why didn’t he play more if it was working?

They put ighodaro back in. Hurley put Sanogo back in. It wasn’t a bad coaching move.

Good game by Marquette they hit all their even semi open shots and UConn missed their open shots. That’s it. Good offensive team who was hot tonight. Maybe UConns defense could have been better but the main flaw was just missing open looks.

Shaka is a good coach and he took Hawkins out of the game. And doubled Sanogo. Hurley let Kolek shoot going under every screen and he burned them. As did Joplin from corner because everyone was hedging to middle which shouldn’t be an issue when you play under the ball screen. But was.

Tough to beat a good team three times. Five threes that would put UConn ahead and missed all five. Three were open looks. ‍♂️ Sanogo probably scores in post and/or gets fouled. If Jackson were still in game he would have made that pass. ‍♂️

You have to hope Newton, Hawkins, Jackson learn from this. If Joey hits one of those threes everyone feels differently.

I said in the chat we could lose this game at the line. Turns out we did.

This team has the raw talent to win it all, but just lacks the "magic" and cohesion that past UConn Title teams possessed that gives you any confidence they will. When in a tight, physical game, the pattern has been UConn will come up short this year. Dont see any evidence that has changed...

You’re nuts. Why was Hawk on the floor down the stretch when he was stone cold and disengaged? Why wasn’t Clingan on the floor when he made a huge difference and shut them down? Why wasn’t Allyne, who was hot, not on the floor? Why no TO? Why playing for 3 instead of 2 when 99% of coaching days drive the lane? Yes, they got 2 good looks and missed. The last was atrocious and that last look mattered. You call TO, put in Clingan, you drive or dish to Karaban or Allyne, and puns the boards. Hurley is no clutch HC. Never has been.
That is some serious Monday morning quarterbacking right there.

Joey had 2 very very open 3 the last 2 minutes you gotta make them Marquette did.
Don’t forget that pull up 3 on the 3 on Q break, too. I don’t mind the decision to shoot the 3 on that, it just sucked that he didn’t make it.

How have we not learned that Clingan plays well in spurts and doesn’t have the stamina to play very extended minutes?
I legitimately think it's because Hurley has done such a good job of managing the minutes that we haven't seen it hurt us more than a handful of times. Clingan and Sanogo are almost always getting subbed out before their play starts hurting us
