Sort of disagree.
Hurley runs a competitive program. Guys compete for minutes. We just had Jaylin Stewart transfer out after 3 years because he didn't see a path to playing as much as he'd like as a senior. Nothing is promised to anybody, definitely not a guy who hasn't played a minute in a UConn jersey yet.
If you have an opportunity to elevate the roster at this point in the year, you take it every time. Back ups are nice but we're talking about a guy that would probably get drafted this year and has been playing professionally for years vs a rising sophomore that showed a lot of promise.
I think based on the personality traits Hurley and staff filter for, Hines would accept the chance to compete with a guy who gives the team a better chance to win a title, will help him get better in practice, and likely only here for one year. If Hines is reasonable, as a sophomore, I don't think it'd be a dealbreaker.
