RS999X, H68 and Friar J,

I agree with the stuff you say about the slimewads at Pitt and Syracuse and West Virginia, but it is possible that someone can be an incompetent fool, and be faced with an impossible, or nearly impossible situation. he can even be a decent guy...I suspect all those things are the case with Marrinatto. It would have been difficult to keep the various factions in line in the Big East. A great commissioner would have had a chance. Marrinatto had none.

Hard to argue with that. Tranghese is generally recognized as one of the greatest commissioners and he could not do it and has been painfully truthful that he bailed because he saw this coming and could not live through it again.

I blame Marinatto for taking the damn job when he knew it would end up this way.

lrock. u cant blame JM. Every fb school was good to go. Swofford didn't have to twist arms. Dr. Gross approached Swofford. You're just po' ed. JM had no power to affect outcomes.

You’re an idiot and I have

serious questions about your reading comprehension. Don’t pretend to be informed about things you know nothing about. What are you a Providence fan? What in my post suggested I think he should have invited Texas and USC? What I did say however was that his integrity put the conference in hot water. His integrity prevented him from seeing blood in the water. It prevented him from understanding that a man with much lower integrity like Swafford would screw him over in 2003 and still have the balls to come back and do it again in 2011. His integrity leads him to believe that he needed to serve all parties and pitch Villanova to the football schools. His integrity kept him from raiding conferences like the MWC or going after Navy and Air Force sooner.

c'mon 1800 characters?

Dumb and honorable. He should be a high school guidance counselor, not the head of a BCS conference.

You might want to consider what Marrionette is doing to the MWC, WAC and C-USA when you say that.

Granted our BE Commissioner is a pirranha in a world of BCS sharks but he's dining well on non-BCS minnow.

That 32-team playoff proposal or the MWC playoff with the C-USA? Dead and we know it. The C-USA, WAC and MWC have 21 teams left between them not counting 2 transtioning newbies. Teams that are not getting near the BCS in the near future.

The C-USA, WAC and MWC and their 21 teams plus transitioning Texas and Texas San Antonio? That's 2 conferences not 3. That's not the minimum 24 for 3 conferences. A 6-member MWC won't fly.

Naturally we whine about what hurts us. Meanwhile there are shudders in the lower 3 conferences. If the BE adds Nevada then the WAC/MWC are down to 12 teams. C-USA will be at 9 teams.

Have you seen his waistline? There's a lot more than minnow in his diet.

.-.

this is so true. People make it sound like Swofford outmanuevered Marinatto, or whoever, in the big east, by playing a smart hand of cards, or out hustling the big east brass. In reality, Syracuse and Pitt, and most likely Uconn, and anyone else, would have jumped at the offer. There was no one for Swofford to outsmart. He has a perceived better conference that initially Miami wanted to join, and BC and Syracuse were more than willing to go along with them. VT wanted to go. After the first three left, the BE did a great job rebuilding, but its constituents were still willing to leave on the next train out with nothing more than a suitcase. You can't blame Marinatto for that. So, while Marinatto is cursed with the look of a bafoon, there was never anything he could have done to keep Syracuse and Pitt after the ACC invite. Just like there is nothing he could do to prevent Uconn or Rutgers from doing exactly the same thing.
