The Rockets will receive guard Toney Douglas, center Jerome Jordan, forward Josh Harrellson and second-round picks in 2014 and 2015, and some cash. Throw in Jeremy Lin (probably won't happen) and the Rockets would get 6 players for one. How the NBA makes money is amazing to me.

NY will match Houston's offer sheet for Lin.

The Knicks also resigned Novak and JR Smith, they will match Lin offer and are expected to resign Jeffries, and might go after a pg/sg combo guy possibly Randy Foye.

This is a move that absolutly needed to be made, the guys the Knicks threw in for Camby are scrubs and Cambys 3rd year is a partial guarantee. On paper they have a great roster now its a matter of getting it done.

Kidd, Camby, Shump, Tyson and Jeffries might be the best pound for pound defensive lineup in the NBA. I hated to see Jorts go because I thought he showed a little potential but this roster is built for a win now 3 year window.

I think that Kidd, despite his age, can still play at a slightly above average level and Could work well with Camby and Tyson. The Knicks definitely could have used another big man like Camby, and now at least have a slight chance of beating the heat.

.-.
This isn't the early '00s, Kidd isn't staying in front of any pg these days.

He doesn't have to, J.R. Smith averaged a career high 1.5 steals last season and can do the best job on the quicker guards until Shump returns in game form. Oh and Lin averaged 1.6 steals pg last season while Shump averaged 1.7.

my response was in regards to you saying pound for pound it would be a great defensive lineup, Kidd isn't the best option for guarding anyone at this stage of his career. Also steals aren't really an indicator of great or even good D. Lin got his ass lit up regularly last year, I'm sure you remember what Calderon was doing to him before Shump got switched over to guard him, and Calderon isn't even a great scorer.

That is not a better defensive lineup than what the Celtics, Heat, Thunder, Sixers, and Hawks can put on the floor.

The Knicks don't have any shot of beating the Heat in the playoffs, but they do have the potential to be a top 4 team in the East. I like the way they've put together their roster, with a nice mix of defensive guys (Chandler, Camby, Shumpert when healthy) paired with their good offensive but defensively deficient players (Melo, Amare, Lin, Kidd).

My biggest worry for the Knicks is how easily top point guards and shooting guards will score against them. The only good backcourt defender they have is Shumpert, and who knows when - or if - he'll get back to the defensive level he was at last season. Lin and Kidd, meanwhile, are defensive liabilities while Smith is probably around average.

I remember, under Woodson though NY played great team defense and moved up to a top three defense in the league.

I should have stated that I wouldn't start that defensive lineup. Just that with the addition of these two veterans, we should be an even deeper defensive team.

All we need now is a stretch two guard that can help space the floor

Are you sure we are bringing Jeffries back? I hope we do but everything I read in June indicated we wouldn't and I haven't seen anything since on him one way or another.

Jordan and Douglass wouldn't see the court outside of garbage time if either did make the final roster. The two second round picks were filler so we basically traded Jorts for Camby. I'll take that any day even considering the age difference.

He wants to come back and I'm sure he'll come at the Vet minimum. Jeffries led the team with 10 Charges drawn last year while missing 27 games so he serves as an important piece in the defense.

With Jared getting the same treatment on his knee that Kobe, Bynum and Arod recieved, Melo dropping 12 pounds and STAT/Tyson working with the Dream, I can't wait until the preseason.

I'm dismissing the Sixers and the Hawks since we beat them 2 out 3 times last year. And you already know how I feel about Boston fella.

Like I said, Woodson focused on defense, and was able to help catapult our defense into the top 3 in the league, while averaging 9 steals a game.

If we can protect the rim and learn to play zone, we have a "shot" at beating the Heat. They're not this big scary team, they have weaknesses and teams have to play to them. We have two defensive players of the year on the same team which at time will both be in the game during crucial situations protecting the rim.

There is no reason why Lin can't improve. He's young enough and isn't crippled defensively like STAT from being coached by D'Antoni all those years.

I'm not worried about the defense as a whole next year since we have a chance to be even better with a full
camp under Woodson and his staff.

The Knicks are treading water.

They haven't made up any ground on the Celts or Heat.

The two managed to split the series last season. Celts lost their most dangerous, back breaking weapon not named Paul Pierce and Knicks lost Landry Fields. Celts will be welcoming back Bradley while we will be welcoming back Shump. As a fan I want Courtney Lee but I heard he wants to play in Boston so that's a great pick up for you guys.

I'd say talent wise we're closing the gap on Boston a lot more than you may think.

No mention of Jason Terry?

More importantly than the season series, the Celtics went two rounds farther than the Knicks and managed to go seven games with the team that knocked you guys out in five. New York will be better, but not nearly enough to overtake either Boston or Miami this season.

I'll believe Carmelo when I see it ... until then, he'll be the bane of the Knick's season. No amount of 38-year-old veterans can change that.

I completely agree. I know that lots of people won't agree with this logic, but there was a reason that the Knicks played a lot better with Jeremy Lin on the floor instead of Carmelo.

A majority of those teams were in the bottom half of their respected conference.

But, but ... Lin is the answer! Lin is a top-5 PG!

The combined record of the teams the Knicks faced during the Lin stretch were 98-135 ...

How many games did you win against Miami with Chris Bosh? Yea Miami beat NY in the first round, I can talk about Shump tearing his ACL in game one and a flu-ridden Tyson Chandler. But at the end of the day, shit happends and we ran into a Heat team with a chip on their shoulder with a few of our major players out.

Who said Lin was a top 5 PG? Ask any rational Knick fan and we'll admit he has to work on his turnovers and picking up his dribble too early amongst other things. He has potential, and we don't need him to be a top 5 PG, just take care of the ball and help get playmakers in position to make plays. The fact that he's fearless is a plus.

I think its time for you to start recruiting other fervent Knick fans to support your arguments. You are outnumbered and quite frankly the Knicks are hard to defend off the court (i.e. in forums like these). Unless that is, you are waiting for an "I told you so" moment to happen. which may take a long while.

Lin is fine - overhyped, but fine.

The Knicks really just managed to get older - those names would have made this an outstanding team five years ago. But it's 2012, and the ghosts of Marcus Camby and Jason Kidd will get us nothing but run out of the building by the Heat.

Pointing to the occasional game where the Knicks were not inept against LeBron, et al, isn't anything other than evidence of a simple mind.
