Random watch of the day, Valpo v Bradley. Andre ‘All Wright’ Vargas has 18 in the first half a day after scoring 29 to upset Northern Iowa in the MVC Tournament. They’re the 11 seed…he was freshman of the year, sweet stroke. Literally watching just to see if he keeps going off.

Duke @ UNC was entertaining going into and coming out of halftime. Flagg sat w/3 fouls in 1st. UNC recovered from a big deficit and got out to a five pt lead and looked pretty damned good.

Not anymore.

I could deal with Flagg being simply great on offense. But damn, the dude is playing some amazing D too. It's not fair.

Killer OOC wins. Those go a long way and what cemented the inter SEC games as so valuable. Each one of the conferences had a chance to fire up their value in the fall and the SEC crushed it. Tip of the hat.

They won 3 elite OOC games and had no non conf losses. If those 3 games were instead great conference games and they were 9-9 in the best conference maybe ever (assuming they beat Texas) and had a mediocre/normal non conf, would you have a problem with them getting in?

I don't know how to feel about Duke. They look great but they have one good win in months. They are 6-3 in Quad 1 with only seven of those games against tournament teams. They are 4-3 against Quad 1 tournament teams. They have only played two tournament teams in the last two months and went 1-1.

Illinois was a good win.
Clemson was a loss.

@SMU/@WF Should be out of the tournament barring some run in the ACCT

Credit to them for thrashing the bad teams on their schedule though. It seems like a lot of those really good Gonzaga teams that scheduled tough OOC then basically only played SMU for months.

Good points. Might be wishful thinking, but you have to think that SOS matters intangibly outside of the models. Right now their Kenpom and Torvik ratings are above 2024 UConn. I know those ratings are SOS adjusted, but I think you have to look at a team like ‘21 Gonzaga who won the analytics championship but didn’t win it all. Time will tell

My only issue with the Sec is a lot of its wins came against the garbage Acc. Look at Louisville. They were destroyed in all there Sec games 0-4 I think. But are guess what 18-2 against the Acc or American east2 as some fans call it now. So now the Sec had multiple wins against a Louisville team with 20+ wins that beat no one out side the American east2 formerly known as the Acc. The Sec did well against the American east2.


I would want Louisville and Clemson as the higher seeded teams we would have to face in the tournament to get to the sweet 16

I'll begin worrying about what it would take to beat thid year's Duke team the minute they become the next game on our schedule. While they are tremendously talented, very long and deep, their dependence on freshmen could lead to difficulty in a single elimination tournament.

I’d say guard play and ball handling. They don’t have a true PG. A team like StJ could give them fits. StJ has the type of size and athleticism to put stress on them, and Duke really seen a team like that all year. For frosh to see that for the first time would be interesting.

If you could lock up LJ Cryer on Houston, they would have a really hard time scoring. He’s shoots better from 3 than 2 so the easy answer is overplaying him. 6’1” kid but finds a way to rub off to find space. Houston continues to feel a very beatable team to me.

Not exactly the team I was thinking of. I was thinking 22 for comparison right down to the generational talent at the 3/4 in Chet vs Flagg. Top tier talent on both teams.

21 is a good call for the metrics though.

Oh look An article about the Sec from ESPN. I am surprised they don’t claim the Sec should be playing the Celtics and the Lakers for the NBA title. I would expect ESPN to discuss the good chances that a Sec team would win the NBA title.
