Nice win for BYU. Neither team is all that good. Iowa St could not defensive rebound for the life of them.

I’ll say this, back end of the 2 seed is really nothing special. St Johns should have every opportunity to get to that line with a strong finish, and deservedly.
It's all about the match-ups
My gut is telling me that St Johns is heading for an early exit while I feel UConn, if Dan Hurley plays his cards and his players in the best position, can make some real noise. UConn won't be deep but the 7 or 8 players they throw out may use last few years' NCAA Tournament experiences to overcome some pitfalls.

It's funny, I feel the opposite. I think Pitino goes into this tourney with a really good sense of what he has, has been playing into his 3 point shooters to get confidence over the last month and will go on a run. They have pieces that are just really hard to match up with that are going to surprise teams. Moreso than anything, Pitino is smart and has been there before. He'll have game plans that will win, will slow it down or speed it up if they have to. I think there are a lot of hot takes over-indexing on their 3 point shooting as trendy, when they do so many other things well that other teams can't do, and which are far more consistent in nature. If you see them in person you realize how long and dynamic they are.

On our side, I think it's very very matchup dependent, up until the point we start really using Tarris consistently, which I still have my questions on whether Hurley can break free from the Samson affinity.

I agree with much of this, but will add that if Johnnies go out in first two weeks, it'll be a weekday game. I think Pitino has a distinct advantage vs any opponent with only 1-2 days to prepare a game plan. This is where coaching and experience become a major asset.

Fair enough
We shall see.............................
Last years UConn team would have beaten this St Johns team 4 out of 5 times.
The NBE was weak this season and I feel UConn, overall, has the most experienced players as far as the NCAAs are concerned. That is an advantage that can't be seen in Xs and Os. Not saying at all that UConn will 3 peat.
Yes, the Johnnies are long, but Pitino isn't the only one out there that can coach.

I mean that's not saying much in taking away from StJ, that Uconn team last year was all time good. StJ doesn't have to be all time good to make a run in this tourney.

Pitino isn't the only coach that can coach but against the field, he's in the top 5%.

I would venture to say 9 out of 10 times last year's UConn team beats this St. John's team. St. John's can have trouble scoring. We all know about their limited outside shooting and they would have a tough time scoring near the basket like they do against last year's UConn team.

Tonight is gonna be lit for NCAA games...

6:30pm #13 Maryland @ #17 Michigan BTN
7:00pm #5 Florida @ #7 Alabama ESPN2
8:30pm #20 Marquette @ UConn FS1
9:00pm #4 Tennessee @ Ole Miss ESPN2

Good test of road games for Maryland, Florida, Marquette and Tennessee. A lot of conference seeding and possible NCAA seeding implications (our game of course, but Ole Miss needs the W to make the dance).

Miss State may be bounced from the rankings.

And cuse, up 44-36 over smu at the half, loses 77-75. Glorious. That sheety university in the wasteland of south canada with nothing to add has won its fewest games since 1969-70. 12!!! I wish I had some friends with ties to that stinkhole but no one I know is stupid to blow cash there.

cuse & bcu. They have to be the biggest busts since Jayne Mansflield.

Jayne Mansfield. I did not know this. Jayne was only 34 when she died in a car accident. She was the mother of Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order: SVU.
Not too many success stories among those that bolted for the ACC...........

Losses to Seton Hall 3 years in a row is incomprehensible. Cannot even begin to postulate a theory as to why.
It's four years in a row at their place but we've lost to them once per year the past five years...........yikes!

Pace and athleticism in this Bama-UF game is off the charts. Florida is able to roll multiple bigs out there, a couple of which can play high and pass, always looking for cutters. And they can hit shots, are skilled for their size. So many players on Bama that have a floor game. Both teams crash the boards. Super fun game, another level. Sears is as close to a college Jaylen Brunson as you’ll find.

If there is one area I would look to long term develop it’s finding these skilled/smart big guys, getting them stronger and acquainted. You can often find them lower in the rankings, or internationally. Youssef seemed to be more of a raw athlete.

PC about to go down to DePaul at home - not sure we should take too much away from that one. PC has hit rock bottom. English may have another year of leash before it starts getting dicey.

UM has really really poor guard play. Not sure how long they are in the tourney no matter their tough two big lineup.

Lots of excitement in New Britain for the Blue Devils! Central currently has the longest active win streak in the country, and has the most road wins in the country. Hoping they can cap off a fantastic season with a ticket punched!
