March Madness, 2nd round - Saturday

Just looking at the slate for today. How does St. John’s vs. Kansas not get one of those first 2 slots of the day? That’s the can’t miss game today, but instead we get to watch Purdue? I get UK being in that 2nd slot, but how many eyeballs are tuning in to watch Purdue?
If St John's vs Kansas gets that slot the other stand alone game would be Arizona and Utah State which is not going to get many casual fans to watch

UConn & St John's seemed like the 2 best "non-P4" teams and they put them in the same region and with supposed overall #1 seed ....coincidence?
The only point in getting upset by this is if we face each other in the Elite 8. And if that happens, guarantees 1 BE team in the F4 and a crazy fun matchup. I'll take it.

Separately, Texas and their big outplayed Graham Ike last night. We need one of these kids. Plays like an animal.

Like say a big who could put up 31 points and 27 rebounds against Furman 2 nights ago? We have an animal at center

It is clear as day they are trying to screw the Big East every chance they get. St John as a 5 seed is criminal.

Big East commissioner Val is doing jack. At minimal, Big East needs to expand and add more teams to create more opportunities for conference play. Teams like High Point should be considered immediately.

This last paragraph is why you are a laughing stock on this board. Our center goes for 31 and 27 in a NCAA Tournament game and you think "we need one of their big guys."

Is it screwing the Big East? If they were the top 2 seeds, you might have a point, but I think this actually improves the league’s chances of getting a Final Four team.

I'm talking about going forward - relax buddy. That response is ridiculous. We need rim protectors and will be in the market for a big for next year. Teams like Texas, Zona, Michigan, Illinois all have these Euro 5's. Even Nebraska has one.

When 1/3 of your S16 has one, might be worth considering the Euro big angle.

I defend the Big East as much as anyone, but this just isn’t the league’s year. UConn’s A game is as good as any team’s in the country, but we don’t always show our A game. St. John’s took a while to gel. Creighton, Butler and Villanova were good enough to challenge for Sweet 16 spots until injuries limited their ceiling. Seton Hall needed another shooter. Georgetown and Providence need new coaches, and DePaul is a year away from challenging for a bid. Xavier had a down year, and Smart is either a genius or insane with how he is building Marquette.

We can have a follow up discussion if we somehow ending up playing St John again in the Final 8.

Yeah, I wish we could get like a 7’ 1” guy from Europe…maybe Germany would be a good European country to start looking for one. Wonder if our staff could find one? Probably not

Hurley needs to realize the game has moved away from guards and he needs to start recruiting bigs like Adama Sanogo, Donovan Clingan, and Tarris Reed. Get on it Hurley!

1) StJ - KS is a marquee game. Of course it’s gonna get a major slot.
2) game is in San Diego.
3) the first 2 games of the day are a pair from the same site. If StJ were on at 230, then you’d have Arizona-utahSt at noon. (9 am local)

Golden nails it - if you want to dominate with the NIL advantage, you're not doing it with finesse, you're doing it with manpower. Hurley, take notice. This is what I've been talking about, Golden confirming it. '

Thanks for sharing - good set of tweets. Hurley needs to start thinking about his strategy because his very recent quote is already outdated and obsolete.

When the top three teams are tossing out Mara/Johnson/Yaxel, Krivos/Peat/Awaka and Ngongba/Boozer/Brown, it's a trend worth noticing.

Our KenPom ranking is skyrocketing with this Texas run. This will help with recruiting.
Texas still the worst alive on KPom at #32 with a day to play in the round of 32

SJU is 3.5 point favorite as a 5 seed vs 4 seed Kansas....all you need to know.

Look, the bottom line is that Texas and Illinois have something we don't and that's why we could never hope to beat teams like that.

St John is a 5 seed due to their terrible record in their OOC schedule.

Bettors don’t know how to handicap “Peterson has hangnail and won’t play” risk.

I'm not "upset" just silly that we're placed in the same region.....not difficult to place 3 measly BE teams in different regions let alone the 2 best.
But this was a case of St John's and UConn both getting favorable placement, not the opposite. If they are both able to win today they will their preferred Sweet 16 location in Washington DC
