March General CBB Discussion Thread

I don’t understand why you keep stating the obvious to me. Have I not demonstrated I understand what the permutations are and how they are most likely to play out?

We can’t have it both ways with Houston. Them losing helps us get the 1 in the south (if UF loses) but them winning helps us get the 2 in The east (bumps us down the s curve if Duke remains #1 overall).
Disagree with them winning helps us get seeded with Duke. It doesn’t work that way. 2 seeds get preferences in location by seed like #1 seeds do. They don’t put #1 overall with #8. Those preferences are limited by conference opponents so #5 gets to choose but can’t pick a region with a conference opponent. We want to be #5.

Illinois just lost and that helps too.

I am leaning towards Iowa St. If they win, I think they take Illinois spot on the 2 line. Having one less Big Ten team on the 2 line helps us get away from Michigan.

With Dukes injuries, I would rather be the 2 seed with them in the East than a 1 in the South with Florida.
Bracketology already had ISU as a 2 and Illinois as a 3. I think/hope Illinois is a 3 with their L. Regardless of that, we won’t be in the east if Duke is #1 overall and the only team that I think would jump Duke is Zona due to Dukes HtH win over UM.

No, If Duke is #1 overall we cannot be in the East if we are 5th on the s curve. Thats the reward for being #1 overall. Yes 2 seeds get geographical preference too and the goal is to limit aggregate travel among teams of the same seed, and yes Teams Also can’t be put in the same region with a conference member, but the committee will try to balance the seeds first and foremost. Having the best 1 and 2 seeds in the same region would not be balanced.

If Iowa St is ahead of Illinois at this point (and I would argue they have a good case) then I totally see your point.

Too much thinking about this stuff, goodness. The most important thing is hoping we starting playing NC caliber. Tonight is a decent test given our first two games, and now they are confident and on a role.

This is stuff worth discussing there’s no hot takes involved. Let’s start playing well but also get a favorable draw.

.-.
What is important for the remainder of the current men's college basketball season:

We learn to deliver 40 minutes (or more if needed) of focus and intensity throughout our lineup for every game we play.

What is not important:

What any other schools does.

Dusty May looks and sounds like a horse jockey and his name sounds like a 70's era adult film actress.
LOL!!! Would be funnier if you had been the one that posted up above, "Everything doesn’t need to be a hot take."

I mean, I'm not going to overthink the hows and whys and s curve regional limitations, but I'd be ecstatic to be the #2 in a wounded #1 seeded Duke region for sure.

The favorable draw is going to be more about the 7/10 and 3 seed we get paired up with, not the 1 seed. There is no way of anticipating that at this point. We will have to likely go through one of the big 4 in the Elite 8. They're all good.

Yeah we’re talking about the potential elite 8 matchups which are expected to be chalky …who the heck are you to police conversation Mr hot take?

They’re probably not hearing their name on Sunday anyways, but bizzare to put this out so early as a bubble team

Well, I'd bet the NIT has feelers out to the bubble teams already, even before their bubbles get popped or not.

Lol, that was funny Mr Minutes Distribution. Each team has to win 3 games to even get to that game, and I'm not sure there is any one team we match up with better with.

Thanks Im familiar with how the bracket works…I speculate on recruiting and minutes distributions in the off season when there’s nothing else to talk about. You spout off dumb hot takes on a daily basis that annoy almost everyone. Don’t tell me what I can/can’t discuss.

I was joking man - take it easy. All good.

It’s a predicament. We want Zona #1 overall and we want ISU as a 2 seed instead of Illinois. I think we need to root for Zona and then hope Duke and Illinois lose.
How many games can Illinois lose and still be on the 2-line. At this point I think it’s UConn, ISU, MSU, and Houston with only the order in question. Maybe Kansas still with a shot?

I think Golden has gotten a little too big for his britches since the championship. He's said a lot of things this year that make him sound like a DB.

Defending national champs with a legit chance to go back to back and he beat a pretty sleazy misconduct allegation on a technicality - I'm sure he's feeling himself.

Kind of hard to call him out for getting cocky after seeing Hurley after the B2B. Would be the epitomy of hypocrisy.

It’s not true. They avoid it but they also prioritize putting teams close to home and the highest seed is prioritized. If we are the true 5 and want they East, they’d call us the 6 and make it happen. I expect all four 1 seeds to be so close that it doesn’t matter. #5 chooses after #4. The S curve is almost never maintained.

Geographic placement and venue restrictions

  • Teams should remain as close to their home region as possible, based on mileage.
  • If two teams from the same region compete for the same bracket slot, the higher-seeded team stays local.
  • A team cannot play at a venue where it has played more than three games that season (excluding exhibitions and conference tournaments).
  • Host institutions cannot play at the site they are hosting, though they may play on the same days.
  • Teams are allowed to compete at a site where their conference is serving as the host.
  • Additionally, when placing teams into the bracket, the committee may move a team up or down one seed line — and in rare cases, two seed lines — from its true seed to ensure all bracketing principles are properly met.”
Core placement steps

  • No. 1 seeds placed first:
The four No. 1 seeds are assigned to the four regions, determining the Final Four semifinal pairings. The overall No. 1 seed chooses its preferred region and first-/second-round site.
  • No. 2 seeds placed next:
Assigned in true-seed order, with flexibility to move teams slightly to avoid placing the No. 5 seed in the same region as the overall No. 1.
    Conference-separation rules cannot be compromised.

What was the technicality? I remember when the story first broke and assumed it would be a wrap for his career at UF and then it went away quietly.

No Title IX issue. Compare that with Taurean Green who's still on Golden's staff. He's alleged to have sexually assaulted a UF staffer so it's a university issue and is ongoing.

Very quietly - lot's of smoke, somehow it was blown under the rug.
