This has nothing to do with talking about what happens on the court. The issue is that you’ve spent the entire season running your mouth about whichever team happens to be hot at the moment. First it was how great Michigan was and how they were clearly the team to beat. Then after a loss, suddenly Arizona was the best team. Now a month later it’s Duke.


Instead of trying to flip this back on me like you usually do, maybe take a second and look in the mirror. All season you’ve been the definition of a bandwagon fan—jumping from team to team depending on who looks good that week.


As for UConn, yes, I absolutely believe they can win. I know this team can compete with anyone in the country. It might not always be pretty and it will probably be a grind, but they are absolutely capable of beating anyone they face.

UConn and Duke have fan bases that are unhappy with anything other than a natty. I’m trying to figure out how a team that can beat St. John’s by 32 can lose to Creighton and Marquette and also barely escape losing to lower level BE teams.
My answer will not be popular here. On any given day most BE teams can be competitive with a team and players they know inside and out for years.
Add in turnovers, off night shooting and fouling and you get tight games.
OOC we have an advantage, and Hurley thinks that too.

Absolutely. Historically, most of UConn’s Big East games tend to be physical, half-court battles, and that’s been the identity of the league for years. These games often turn into grinders where possessions matter and scoring comes at a premium.

That said, if you take last season out of the equation, UConn’s out-of-conference performance under Hurley recently is been nothing more than dominant.

So you mean the top 3 teams.

Running my mouth or accurately assessing the field? Seems some are incapable of doing that. UConn losing and Duke being very good are exclusive to one another. Not sure why you associate the two. I'm not a fan of these teams, FYI. I'm a fan of college basketball, UConn first.

You seem to think on a General CBB thread I should still be talking about UConn - when it infers teams not Uconn. Or talk other teams down. I'm a UConn fan, not a homer. If you put yourself in the homer club I won't judge. I find the field interesting and not talking down other teams for the sake of, I guess you think that's what this thread is for.

Not once did I say Uconn couldn't compete against them - it will take a special effort, but they can absolutely beat any one of these teams in a one game format. It's sustaining multiple in a row I really question. But who knows - that's why they play the game. I will say this Hurley having some decided edge is overblown. This roster doesn't have the personnel to will the system on teams and the tape is now out a bit.

Again — I never once brought up UConn. You did. What you’ve also failed to address is the fact that you’ve now named at least three different teams as “the team to beat” this season. My point from the very beginning has been that your opinion changes with whatever the flavor of the week is.

Get used to it around here. Yes, Florida is clubbing a bad SEC, yet we are skating by or losing to teams much worse. So let's downplay the kinda play that is really exciting. That's the expectation of a select few here. God forbid you admire another teams play.

I just don’t care about gushing over other teams to this extent. I really don’t care that Florida or Michigan or Duke are exciting, I don’t care to hear about how killer of a player Yaxel and Boozer are because I’ve already heard it. I don’t care to hear these things repeatedly on a thread even for general March topics.

I also understand that the SEC isn’t bad at all, though I am not sold on Florida as a title contender for different reasons despite being great right now.

Who are you sold on? At some point, the field is the field. You can pick apart what a team doesn't have so much as there are other teams that have more and enough to beat them. Everyone loves saying you "need guards" - so are you picking Arkansas?
 
Arizona would be my non-biased choice, 5/6 seed Arkansas obviously a close second

I will never be sold on a team with one of the worst 3 point percentages in the entire country. An elite front court does not sway me with that.

We shall see if the guard thing truly is the way. Game is changing. Teams are stacking dominant FCs and taking away the paint.

When you can stack talent in a way where you can dominate, the paint is where it happens.

I simply like what Duke is bringing defensively * Boozer if they are healthy, by a nose.

Yeah, will read but it's obvious. Once economics kick in and the game professionalizes, without an even landscape of $$, this was going to happen.

Things that will happen across contenders (20-25 teams or so):

  • Teams with the highest NIL will build where dominance is most clearly built - front courts, size. As Parcells used to say, there is a limited amount of talented huge men on the planet (plenty of guards out there).
  • Top teams will be acquirers vs builders, building with top frosh & top portal
  • The 3-4 year player being impact is going to be deprioritized. Top teams will be built primarily with draft potential talent. Of the 60 draft slots, I can see a large % of them being on these teams.

A kid like Nigel James is actually a pretty good get because he'll end up being an awesome college player, but doesn't translate to the NBA. The lightning fast undersized PG type may not be a bad type of player to shove on a roster. A kid like him is such a weapon. Not a ton of them, but great to have.

Yes Reed over Krivas and Demary over Sharp. You say crap like this which is a direct insult to Reed and Demary and then when you get called out you throw your hands up in the air asking what you did wrong and claiming it’s just good covo fodder. It’s tired and transparent is what it is.

Possibly - let's realize neither of they played against a BE schedule. I posed a question, you answered, well. No need to get worked up.
