March General CBB Discussion Thread

There's talk of AJ Dybantsa staying at BYU and that the owner of the Jazz, Ryan Smith, a BYU grad, may throw a huge load of NIL money over AJ's way to have him stay and wait until the Jazz gets the 1st pick.

Iowa has put together a nice 7-0 run.
Michigan 63-60. Does that mean for Iowa....

Bizarre. Why does AJ want to stay in Utah?

Nobody watching Iowa-Michigan? UM up 2 with 43 seconds left. Iowa with the ball. Great game so far.

Michigan 68 Iowa 66

Michigan just traveled, with 25 seconds left.

Iowa guy dribbles off his leg going to basket.

Michigan ball 8.1 seconds.

Gayle gets credit for causing Iowa's turnover, but Yaxel's defense on Stirtz was the winning play. Stirtz could not get a shot off.

Michigan survives the Stirtz mobile.

He played well but I counted 3-5 misses that were in and out. They D'd up Michigan physically and played them well with the size disparity.

I didn't watch but ruttie lost, of course. ruttie was down by 19 with 6 minutes remaining. Down by 14 at 82-68 with 1:19 remaining. Game ended 91-87. Total of 28 points in the last 1:19?!

Yeah - might be their undoing.
Wait……is that Ruff Ruff once again jumping OFF the Mich bandwagon?? This guy flip flops more than a recently caught fish in a boat.

What in Gods name would happen if NC beats Duke this weekend?? Would there suddenly be some more “we’s” thrown around?? This is getting interesting…..

AJ staying in college aside, that seems like a huge conflict of interest and should probably be illegal
Its not a coincidence AJ went all the way to a prep school in Utah in which Ryan Smith was part owner of. And now AJ is now getting an upwards of 4-7 million in NIL money at BYU - likely not financed entirely by the Mormon community. What is really stopping Ryan Smith from telling AJ to stay if the Jazz does not get a top pick? The roster is ready for AJ to come in along side Ace Bailey, Keyonte, Laurie, Kessler, JJJ.... They have favorable chances this year and next in terms of draft position.

I agree Smith is pulling some strings, but the Jazz traded their 1st round pick next year so they're not getting AJ even if they ended up at the top of the draft

The lack of depth at PG will catch up to Michigan at some point in the tournament.
Agreed. That Cason injury is a bigger deal than most people seem to think.

Is AJ mormon?

The fact that both Michigan and Duke blow out most teams but have narrowly escaped losses several times? Maybe not as bulletproof as the media has said all year.

They both lack a really great point guard (and shooting guard) who can settle things down when flustered.

Cadeau usually operates fast and loose. Duke doesn’t even have a true point guard they run by committee.

Will be Michigan's achilles heel for sure.

Not sure what Duke's close escapes are - they've trounced teams for months now other than their loss @UNC. Foster isn't the best PG, they also have little Boozer on the bench.

Vs ranked teams, Duke has won 5 games by single digits, lost 2 by single digits and thrashed 2 other teams (L'ville twice, Clemson). They also eked out single digit wins vs GT and FSU.

Duke is 60% ATS. Same as Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Villanova, Seton Hall, and Washington. Less than Arkansas and ASU (and Miami OH!). They do own the largest average margin of victory at 20.6 pts, which was compiled mostly with 30+pt wins over West Carolina, Army, Indiana St., Niagara, Howard and Lipscomb (only 24).

That's certainly very good, but I feel we've all seen more dominant teams in the past. For instance, the '99 losers won 12 games by 30 pts or more vs nine this year, and went 8-0 vs ranked opponents in the regular season.

These games over two months ago? We're expecting them to blow out ranked teams? No one is saying they're the Celtics and unbeatable. Their KP is over 12 points higher than ours. I'd say as it comes to measurements this year, they are going to be a tough beat for anyone.

my prediction, Michigan and Duke go out of the tourney before the final four. Still not sold on Scheyer or May getting it done when the pressure is on.

remember, Scheyer choked away one last year big time. The other is Lloyd at Arizona, has had some strong teams but goes out early.

Sure, they'll require an A game from their opponent to lose, but IMHO, the '99 team was stronger, and they didn't get a ring that time.

Interesting thread read:
