March 18 games thread

I did not take into account the ineptness of TN. Letting OSU back. OSU 24 TN 23

Edit Rennia Davis hits buzzer beating 3pt shot for 26-24 lead at half. TN intrinsically can't shoot.

TN has 25+ seconds to run a final play. They do nothing until Davis heaves up a deep 3 pointer which goes in. To have run no offense there is ... well, pretty bad.

Did you enjoy the first halves of the Baylor/Grambling game or the MSU/Nicholls game?
By the way, Tenn/ OSU is a competitive game. You don't enjoy it?

I enjoy good basketball, not mistake basketball. They have more turnovers than assists.

8-0 run for Maryland...4 turnovers for NC State in the run and Maryland has pulled within 24-21, 4:41 left 2nd quarter.

Spokane regional next week could set a point record if Notre Dame, DePaul, Ohio State, and Oregon are all there.

DePaul 43-28 at half. A&M has no outside game to speak of.

.-.
Halftime: NC State leads Maryland, 32-26...but Maryland finished the 2nd quarter on a 13-8 run.

NC State shot 46.2% in the half...was 2 of 5 from THREE and was 6 of 7 from the FT line.

Maryland shot 29% in the first half...was 8 of 14 from the FT line and did not make a THREE.

NC State outrebounded Maryland 20-19.

NC State turned the ball over 10 times, many of them careless and allowed Maryland to chip away at a double-digit lead. The Terps turned the ball over 6 times.

Foul trouble will plague NC State in the second half; Maryland was going inside a lot and the Wolfpack racked up a lot of fouls. Chelsea Nelson, Kayla Ealey and Akela Maize all with two fouls each.

Kiara Leslie leads N C State in scoring with 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Akela Maize had 8 points, Kayla Ealey with 5 and Chelsea Nelson had 4 points and 4 rebounds.

For Maryland, the bench was crucial; Brianna Fraser leads with 9 points and Ieshia Small 7 while Stephanie Jones was the highest-scoring of the starters with 4 points. Jones and Kaila Charles for Maryland have 2 fouls each.

Feel bad for OSU, playing against 8. These refs have missed a clear TN double dribble, multiple travels, multiple charges and Russell grabs a long rebound, falls and they call Gulich for her 3rd foul because she was running near her...Unbelievable.

Gülich 3rd foul

Copied umlaut from Windows character table and pasted into the posting.

.-.
DePaul 50 A&M 42. DePaul had a comfortable lead earlier in Q3 but A&M 13-2 counterattack. Anriel Howard playing like a champ.

NC State has turned the ball over 13 times but is holding on to a 41-36 lead over Maryland, 4:00 to go in the 3rd quarter.

Akela Maize and Kayla Ealey have 3 fouls each for NC State.

Stephanie Jones and Kaila Charles have 3 fouls each for Maryland.

Kiara Leslie now leading all scorers with 15 points for the Wolfpack Women.

It's an exciting, up-and-down game. Some great plays mixed in with some sloppy plays. But both teams are playing really hard and there's a ton of energy in the gym. Credit to the NC State fans for turning out, and Maryland brought some fans with them as well.

I'm especially impressed with the season NC State has had. I figured they'd take a step back after graduating their two best players last season, but this year's team has been every bit as good, if not better.

I have missed last 20 minutes. Anyone explain why Russel trying to start above the key, dribble through a crowd and shoot, only to have it taken from her. ???

End of Q3. Late in the quarter DePaul got its shot back and traded baskets with the Aggies. DeP. 63 A&M 53

The depth of talent in WCBB is far less than in men's basketball. If the women had the same depth, I think Warlick's Tennessee teams would be as ineffective as Kevin Ollie's UConn teams were (once the Calhoun players had all graduated). In some ways they almost seem like siblings with the way they can churn out teams that don't have any offensive flow to them.

.-.
Hmm...interesting. Fraser called or a Technical Foul after trash talk following a made basket.

47-38, Pack...2:20 left 3rd quarter. Now 20 points for Leslie.

Then Ace Konig for THREE...50-38.

NC State on a 13-2 run.

Then freshman Kai Crutchfield hits a THREE. 53-38. Timeout Maryland.

Whew!

Mercedes thinking she could dribble down the court. That was funny.
When I was guard many moons ago I used to love when big people would try to dribble in the open floor. It was the easiest steal ever.

Tenn has the refs at home obviously on Russel in slow deliberate motion lowers shoulder pushes in and shoves off ... no call. Crickets from announcers. Makes me a little ill.

Senior doesn't know to find a guard. The team isn't. Bunch of inmates running around; thus has it always been under FAHR Holly.

Gulich has had to pick herself up off of the court a dozen times, Russell - 1 foul on her...

.-.
Kai Crutchfield nails another THREE at the 3rd quarter buzzer...that's 8 points for the freshman and NC State takes 56-40 lead into the 4th.

DePaul down to 6 pt lead in last 6 min. A. Howard incredible rebounder.

Oregon State vs Tennessee....

AS I PREDICTED...

I had this as a potential upset in my bracket and i mentioned it when the brackets came out.

I watch too much PAC12 basketball and new this could be a problem for the Vols.
