Wait, didn't they announce they were hiring Kiffin yesterday? Or did the media mess that up?

Better hire than Kiffin. Would stay longer if successful and is an up and coming coach. Miles probably wanted too a low buyout and maybe his heart wasn't into it at Houston.

I hope we talked to Orlando. It brings the letterman back at least.

Dan Wolken and he doubled down on it... guessing they couldn't agree on buy-out figure for LK. Kiffin/Miles still on the board.

A better choice for them than Kiffin. Lane's a risky HC and likely a career coordinator. Applewhite knows their system, their offense, and their recruiting. Hiring Kiffin also would likely have meant Applewhite and/or Orlando would have been let go/left since you can't hire a brand new HC, especially with Kiffin's cache, and not let him pick his coordinators.

He makes way more sense than Kiffin... which was really the 'sexy' name out there... Happy for the guy....

The Boneyard had Houston hiring Kiffen, but The Boneyard also had Kiffen going to LSU as the OC.

Never saw one actual media member saying the deal was done with Kiffen

This is what started the Kiffin to Houston noise:

Dan Wolken ‏@DanWolken Dec 8
BREAKING: Houston has decided on Lane Kiffin, president to OK the hire at a Thursday meeting, @USATODAY has learned

HUGE ripple effect of Major Applewhite getting Houston is not only Lane Kiffin>LSU or USF but Todd Orlando now expected to become #TexasDC.

This is exactly right except that Strong will be at USF, which will let LSU hire Kiffin at $1.8million per year. They will have the 2 highest paid assistants in the country.

They were willing to overlook it when they hired him as OC...
That's when it happened Medic...which is why he had to leave..and why there was no chance of him rejoining Herman at UT if he didn't get the UH job.

Yeah, girls was an adult, and not an employee or student of Applewhite's. That whole thing is quite tame and stupid, frankly.

Then you weren't looking hard enough. When reports like this come out 95% of the time it's true. Wolken got this wrong. I ran with it. Sue me. I got BL on retainer.

It is NOT tame nor stupid.

It happened in an environment that the longtime National Championship Track Coach at Texas - Bev Kearney was just forced to resign (or be fired) FOR Having a consensual romantic relationship with a student-athlete. Therefore, ALL coaches needed to be held to that standard. Applewhite incident was brought up in the same timeframe and that's the breaks. Bottom line: Texas has a policy that Coaches cannot have consensual relationships with Texas students.

Why dId people think Houston, a.k.a. run&shoot U. would hire Les Miles? He was fired at LSU for being too offensively conservative.
