Luke Murray’s Replacement | Page 3 | The Boneyard

Luke Murray’s Replacement

I think Nardi is Luke's replacement so this is more so a Nardi replacement.
I'm inclined to think so as well. If somebody's out there, who's a home run hire, that's fine, but I think this is the more likely "backup plan" than Moore going back to being an assistant.

.-.
Maybe Hey Adrien wouldn't mind taking the assistant job for 1/2 of Luke's salary .
I would take it for free. Plenty of experience. 11 years high school and 30 years Special Olympics. Don’t think my wife would like the idea though

Remember the guy that analyzed our plays back in ‘24? That’s the guy I’d like to see get the job. Anyone know who I’m talking about?
Jordan Sperber aka Hoopvision? He was an assistant coach at Miss St recently, but decided to go back into the content world.

.-.
Why? Not a fan of talik? Dont know enough about how he’s done under pitino to be honest? If you have some info hopefully you’ll fill me in

Taliek has 4 years of D1 assistant coaching experience. He hasn't reallly done the legwork. Our others had

Tom: 14
Kimani: 6
Luke: 11
Kenya: 14
Nardi: 7

That doesn't even factor in that we may just want someone with a different skill set.

And what on earth has Andrew Hurley done other than be given a GA spot by his father? We don't need nepo hires on this staff.

.-.
I thought there was a real chance it would be Kim English, but he notoriously dislikes analytics. Seems like Preston Murphy is our guy.

If true on Murphy to UConn-speculation at best at this time-wouldn't mind having him bring Aiden Sherrell with him.

Well I know he has more experience than that because Dan hired him in 2018.

And the Andrew thing is not as one of the top assistants by the way. It’s everyone moves up a peg. Not my choice but something I saw when Murray was hired by BC. Along with Brown

Is there any Murphy to UConn speculation beyond the fact that he worked for Hurley at Rhode Island?
I don't do deep dives on web but have picked up on noise about his fit -esp. as a talent evaluator/recruiter- for Luke's opening. Oates and Danny go back a long way and I don't see Oates standing in the way if Murphy truly sees this as an upgrade from his Bama job. If there is more smoke- will report back.

You're probably referring to Jordan Sperber, he spent a year on the Miss State coaching staff for the 2024-2025 season but left. UConn assistant would be skipping several steps and based on his comments it would probably be too much of a committment

I'm back! Sort of...

Taliek wasn't an assistant coach in 2018 dingus. He was a player development director. Pitino hired him to Iona for his first AC job in 2022.

Luke was hired by BC because he was possibly the top assistant coach in D1 basketball, not because his dad hired him.

Murphy was mentioned in press last week in a few blurbs. The big thing is Murphy offers everything we need and he's been a winner everywhere he's been. He was even at BC for a stint when they were winning games. He's got a good job at Alabama, but working for Hurley is like working for Coach K at this point. Its a big opportunity.

One catch is that his son plays for Bama. He doesn't have much of a role, but he only has 1 or 2 years of eligibility left. I'm not sure if that would keep his dad there for a while longer or not.

, I hate was nardi in 2018? Idiot. Sit down and let adults talk

Murphy is more of a recruiter/connections guy with some XO’s knowledge. Another one of Dan’s disciples, but Bama and the SEC is a sweet gig right now too, not saying they are a UCONN equivalent, but I think Oates would fight to kept Preston.

Cox was Hurley’s lead guy at URI when they went on their runs that propelled Hurley to UCONN. He had a decent run as a HC, COVID years should get a mulligan. Currently Willard’s lead coach and helped get UMD and Nova out the gutter their predecessors left them in.

I don’t like the idea of elevating anyone on the staff, personally.

I also don’t see Dan getting one outside of his lineage. He’s a loyal guy and I think he’s like the idea of familiarity just based on his coaching tree. That’s why I see it being a retread. I’m sure Bobby would’ve been a shoe in if he would taken it.

I do agree though, at this point, UCONN can probably run autonomously with just Dan and it’s reputation. As long as the replacement is closely equivalent to Luke, all will be fine.
