Luka to Lakers

There's a rumor floating around this morning that the Lakers were the second call, after the first (unnamed) NBA team stated they had no Interest in trading for Luka.

Personally I see this as BS, floated in an attempt at damage control.

This is an interesting take.

Vegas isn't greenlighting another NBA/NHL arena anyway. Any NBA team would play in T-Mobile. So while it is known that they want casinos in Texas, nobody in Austin is going to blink because the threaten to move the Mavs. The state has two other teams.

No idea how reliable this is, but it's probably closer.

Ok, more supporting what I posted above. Mav's new nepotism GM is just an idiot.

Lebron definitely knew about I don't believe that BS.

Yeah he’s an idiot for not getting more. At the same time the Mavs aren’t tanking. They’re probably better fit to beat they’re going to be a great team this year.

Only question is if Kyrie can carry the perimeter scoring for an entire playoff.

I say no personally. But they might be better off short term. The roster makes more sense.

Andddd Rob Pelinka makes the Lakers immediate title contenders. All without giving up Reaves or Rui.

The people who actually watch the games/study film seem to be a lot less gung ho on Williams than those of us that just scan the box score, FWIW. But there's no doubt his upside is legit. I always liked him as a prospect.

I watch a lot of Charlotte games. He’s for sure more of an upside guy. But getting out of Charlotte and next to guys like Luka and LeBron should help him tap into that very high upside.

He's younger than Knecht and is able to be apart of the present and future for the Lakers.

Rob Pelinka has knocked the deadline out of the park setting the team up to win now and prepare for life after LeBron. All without giving up Reaves or Rui.

Just their 23 year old rookie lol

This trade feels lopsided in Charlotte's favor. Might work for both teams. I still don't think the Lakers have anywhere near enough to win the west.

I disagree. Lakers get the big they want and he can help them win now and in the future. He’s actually younger than Dalton too.

Btw, as much heat the Mavs have taken and they may be the deepest team in the NBA coming out the deadline.

Lakers overpaid to get the big they want. I get that. Two years from now I think Knecht will be a straight up better NBA player than Williams. Charlotte also got an unprotected 1st round pick and Reddish who is a decent bench piece.

Strongly disagree on Knecht vs Williams. Williams is younger and already is averaging 16 and 10 this year.

For perspective on where Knecht is at age wise in the NBA. He is the same age as Anthony Edwards and Lamelo Ball.

Older than Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green. He can be a solid starter but Williams upside is a 20 and 10 two way big.

Lakers got a steal.

I'm genuinely confused by the near universal praise the Lakers are getting for this deal. Mark Williams is a decent player, but this is a guy who has played 85 out of 212 career games. To say he's injury prone would be an insult to guys who have that label

It was a huge need. If he can stay healthy, obviously a huge if, it is a good deal for them.

I agree it was a huge need, and I guess you have to work with what's available, but given the price they paid I'd want a difference maker in return and I just don't see that with Mark Williams

Again it’s all about health, but he has taken a real step forward. He is a good free throw shooter, can pass pretty well, and grades out as a relatively good defender in his minutes. The Lakers pick is 6 yrs down the line, and although I think Knecht will be a good player, I think Williams has a much higher ceiling at a bigger position of need. They’re in win now mode, next 2/3 years seem to be the window.

Night and day difference in how he was moving back then, obviously still great but crazy to see how he moves now at only 25

Now that guy is worth a lot more than an aging Anthony Davis. I don't know who can get through to him, but he needs to work on his conditioning. Maybe Lebron can. Lebron dropped a lot of weight (even if it was muscle) to extend his career.

AD with a first half double double and is dominating the Rockets so far in his Mavs debut

...and naturally AD gets hurt no contact, looked like either his abdominal area again or the groin
