LSU's Kim Mulkey BENCHES Angel Reece in 2nd Half

If Reese truly wants to play professional basketball in the US, I hope that there are some pros that reach out to coach and mentor her, and explain what it will take to do so. That's the #1 question to be answered. Any career of hers, whether it be basketball, modeling, or anything else she's interested in doing, is her career, her choice, and she doesn't owe anyone anything.

For players that want a pro career, there's an onus on both the player to work the craft and the coach(es) to help them understand the process. (see below edit)

Putting aside the mama drama, the rumors about GPA, her fun filled summer of (waving arms around wildly) "everything", there has to be someone that will be brutally honest about what pro scouts and coaches are seeing now.

I also think there were a number of things that Mulkey could have said to take the focus off Reese, and stop the media circus, as I'm thinking that is putting way too much pressure on Reese. However, what Kim said last night after the game was not what was needed here.

Just my thoughts.

On edit - I was listening to a vlog last night regarding the LSU turmoil, and one person mentioned that after the national championship but before the WNBA draft, Alexis Morris tweeted something along the lines of "do I need an agent" or "how do I get one " and that was disheartening that she may not have been prepared for the draft.

If that last part is true, then mulkey clearly fails her.

It's not Mulkey's job to prepare her players to do anything except play the best basketball they can as a cohesive teammate for LSU. If they do that well enough with superior abilities, the pros will be banging at the door. Mulkey has always been a "my way or the highway" type coach. She's been very successful at it. The pros based on the talents Reese has already displayed will gobble her up regardless of her attitude and regardless of whether she stays at LSU. They will simply use her bad attitude against her when negotiating a contract. She will either abide by the terms of it, or she will be released.

As far as the rumored Alexis Morris question about needing an agent. Who knows if that is true (or was it some media person making it up ... it happens!), was she simply joking (which it sounds like to me), or purely a sign of ignorance? Rumors are rumors! Repeating without a semblance of knowing the person, it's harmful to speculate the truth.

Disagree. Do Geno or Dawn only prepare players for college? No. Not only are they coaching them for success at the collegiate level, they are both instilling life skills that will make players successful at the next level. The players may have a college major from an educational standpoint, however great coaches will give them the tools to succeed at a professional BB level. If you are planning your post-college job to be a pro player, then coaches should help you to prepare.

With roster size challenges in the WNBA, I doubt teams will draft players that are bringing baggage. There's no room in the WNBA for "well maybe it will work out". It's cut throat. It's a business, and risks are really bad ideas.

And wrt the Morris question about an agent, I doubt that these bloggers would disseminate false info. They are huge hoop followers and their reps would be damaged if they said something like this that turned out to be false.

@BRS24 - I'll just ignore your rebuttal because we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Well you should agree. These coaches are tasked with the educational part...you know....like a college education. It's the complete package that each coach in all sports are tasked with at the college level. These are educational years in every aspect.

Sorry, I've changed my mind about responding to you.

All of what you said sounds good, but in reality you're not saying much that I didn't ... just differently. You say, "coaches give them the tools to succeed at a professional BB level." What does that statement mean to you exactly? What tools over and above teaching them how to play the best brand of basketball they can and with their natural God given abilities can a coach give them? So if they are coaching them to play the best basketball they can as a cohesive teammate (as I said), is that not doing the same thing? Do you think college head coaches set aside time to talk to their team about being pro basketball players? Seriously? They may answer questions from players about that on an individual basis, but not what you're talking about. Head coaches at all levels of college and professional sports are paid the big bucks to WIN. If anyone at the college level provides much advice to players about becoming pros it would most likely be one of the assistants.

Players know if they possess the talents and abilities to play at the next level. Coaches have done their job of preparing players with pro talents by helping them grow, by teaching them all they can about how to play this game. It's not really the job of a college head coach to hold their hand into the pro game. Not all players turning pro will play in the WNBA by the way! If a player with an attitude (such as Reese) were to leave LSU today, there would be plenty of pro teams needing the type of skills she possess willing to take a chance on her ... WNBA or elsewhere! Have you seen her play?

You're just dead wrong regarding the Alexis Morris rumor thing. You're not giving any thought to understanding how these types of rumors start. Once they do, each time the rumor is told to others it gets altered to some degree. So she says in jest in front of a few people, 'oh, you mean I need an agent?' The next time it's told, it's said that she doesn't even know she needs an agent ... indicating that she is dumb. And please don't tell me that all bloggers and members of the media in general are totally honest and above board. It only takes one to alter a rumor and then away it goes being changed and altered along the way. :)

No hard feelings, we can just agree to disagree.

No hard feelings, we can just AGREE to disagree.
But what if he doesn't agree?

It just an expression dude, I could care less one way or the other. Why do you?
It’s an expression I always thought was stupid When it was big. Nothing personal.

Well as Forrest Gump said, "Stupid is as stupid does." Nothing personal.

This. She was being coy. Alexis knew she would need to hire an agent once she decided to enter the draft. She’s not an idiot.

Of course she isn't an idiot, and if you read everything I had to say about this ridiculous rumor you are directing your comment to the wrong person!

I’m agreeing with you.

If you read the response, you should see that s/he is agreeing with you.

Then that's what you should have started your post with. Using "This.", which didn't make sense to me, put me on the defensive even though what you wrote backed up what I was saying. So I felt it should have been directed at the opposing view and not me. Anyway, sorry and thank you! Lets all move on now and stay friendly.

The hardest thing to cure is a bad attitude. It can destroy a team. From reading this tread it sounds definitely to me that there are bad attitudes within the LSU WBB team and its spreading. This is a huge problem that will be very hard to fix. Just the fact that its out in the public will make it very difficult for the LSU WBB team. LSU has a big problem and Kim has her hands full trying to fix it.

For future reference reference when someone responds with "This" and is replying or quoting you it means they fully agree with what you're saying. It's just Internet shorthand that says I agree.

Well, internet shorthand will never replace common English words for this almost 84 year old. Stating I agree will never be replaced by "This." (you forgot the period that was used) in my book. And while we are on the subject of internet shorthand, "This." means nothing in internet shorthand. THIS means I agree in internet shorthand according to my sources. But thank you anyway.

I think that poster was just trying to be helpful and did a polite job of explaining it.

Best we just move on.

I agree (although he wasn't totally correct) and I thanked him for his kindness. You can move wherever you like, I am always going to defend or explain myself when challenged.

Gooodness gracious, ya’ll act like a bunch of teenage girls. I’m going to put my 2 cents worth in. Maybe it’s not the coach’s OBLIGATION to prepare them for the league, but if you look at the coaches who consistently have players drafted and stick with the league, the Coach should get some credit. I don’t know what goes on in other programs but I do know at SC all our girls have an agent, they are all given the financial tools to deal with any money they earn, and they know how to prepare their bodies for a long season. They are given tools to deal with the media and so are the parents. It’s pretty obvious that Kim wants to win games and doesnt see it as her job to worry about her players other than that.
