"We plan to shock the world today"
The all time greatest quote in UConn lore.
Yep I was there for that one.walked outta there with a big smileLoved’m when he got into it with all the Pitt fans, one of my top 5 UConn basketball memories.
Khalid could arguably be the captain of a UConn all swagger team, no doubt. Not sure there’s another husky I’d rather at the free throw line with the game on the line. Those ones to put us up 3 in the final were good as soon as they fouled him. Onions on the bball court don’t really come any bigger than KEA.
As a fellow Minneapolis North alum and Minneapolis native, Khalid still has that confidence and he is a legend here in Minneapolis! This kid had max confidence and swag - as a freshman no less. And that total joy of just playing basketball.
He was awesome. The first Calhoun Charity game at Mohegan Sun was great. Everybody got their minutes throughout but as the end of the game came near, these guys wanted to win it was tremendous. KEA had a mid-court shot for the win, it just barely missed and he was visibly disappointed. Like JC always said, if your gonna keep score...As a fellow Minneapolis North alum and Minneapolis native, Khalid still has that confidence and he is a legend here in Minneapolis!
I was there too. The Dookie section was chanting "We're Outstanding!" before the game started. One of my fondest memories ever was walking out of the Dome and watching those same fans with tears running down their faces. 'Outstanding' didn't last very long. One of my favorite UConn players of all time and I had season tickets for over 40 yrs since 1975 or 1976. Still have a cancelled check for $40 for season tickets at the field house 1976.
That Pitt game was a classic - the announcers naming a Pitt player - player of the game with 2 mins to play - KEA jumping on the table after the game and pointing to the fans.
I was at the 1999 championship game - Duke fans running all over the place prior to the game shouting we are on train that can’t be stopped. Yeah right.

I'm in line and I have a Dookie behind me saying "You guys had a nice season but tonight's gonna be too much. Too much shooting, too much D, too much Coach K , too much Elton Brand. Too much!" As bad as that was, Dookies are still better than Sparty.I was there too. The Dookie section was chanting "We're Outstanding!" before the game started. One of my fondest memories ever was walking out of the Dome and watching those same fans with tears running down their faces. 'Outstanding' didn't last very long.
I remember when it was announced that Calhoun had signed him. I don’t remember the exact words that JC had used but it was something along the lines that this kid is going to help our program a lot.You can't win six without winning the first. He's the one that got us over the hump.
I'm sure he did but not the first game. My point was that it would have been a miracle shot and it just missed. And it looked to me that he thought he shoulda had it.Someone above said he missed the game winner in the JC charity game but I thought I remembered reading that he had won one of them.
Found it! Must have been a later JC game. God, KEA was so damn clutch.
I'll never forget that moment after that incredible comeback win when he jumped on the scorers table grabbing his UConn jersey shouting at all those obnoxious Pitt fans who were harassing him all game long. I wish I had a recording of that game Can anyone dig up a clip of the that moment?Loved’m when he got into it with all the Pitt fans, one of my top 5 UConn basketball memories.
Here's the last 18 seconds of that game.I'll never forget that moment after that incredible comeback win when he jumped on the scorers table grabbing his UConn jersey shouting at all those obnoxious Pitt fans who were harassing him all game long. I wish I had a recording of that game Can anyone dig up a clip of the that moment?
He was a one of a kind combo talent & personality. He was exactly what they needed to put them over the top.
The young UConn generation points to Cam Spencer as that iconic emotional leader, but KEA was all that and more 2 1/2 decades earlier. I don't think I ever thought of that comparison till now.
