As is being said all week, Syracuse (and Pitt) hoops will tow the party line, but no one associated with it wants to leave the Big East. This is all about football and money.

loved his line about the BET being "the Greatest show on earth"....but I'm sure Greensboro or Atlanta or Greenville or Fayetteville will be just as fun... :D

The BE tournament is the best show on earth. Why wouldn't any recruit want to play in this conference. Why wouldn't any team not want to play in this conference. A shot at Cuse. love it!!
Those are great quotes. You can't blame the coaches who are being left behind to give SU, Pitt & WVU a little dig on their way out.

I wouldnt say the remaining coaches are left behind. football maybe.....but in terms of hoops, i think all three programs will really suffer. the ironic thing is, uconn may want the acc, but the acc really needs uconn. otherwise, both pitt and syracuse will really regret their decision.( in basketball terms)

new found respect for Cincy, they have come long ways since chuggins and the thug kmart and Max

Boeheim after the game said "the tournament that starts next week is the only one that matters. Nothing else matters anymore in college basketball." I am not sure if he was just trying to get his team focused for the NCAA tourney or is putting down the Big East Tournament. It sounds like he is minimizing the Big East Tourney. Obviously, the NCAA tournament is most important, but the Big East Tournament does matter and that is why I hate conference realignment. He knows it matters and Syracuse hasn't left yet. Last year's run by the Huskies was special and mattered a great deal. Moments like that and playing at Madison Square Garden are what CBB is all about. Sorry, it sounds like he is trying to convince himself of something that isn't true.

He's just being the jerk he is.

I hate Boeheim even more now and I never liked him. What a smug bastard

What is he supposed to say?

The Big East Tournament is immediately without meaning for the team that is knocked out of it.

The difference between the 'greatest show on earth' and 'next week is all that matters' is whether you win or lose.

He's rationalizing. It never matters when you don't win it. Ask all the orange fans in attendance how meaningless it is.

You can find them outside MSG....flogging their ducats!

If Yancy Gates didn't play for Cincinnati, I'd be loving this win. Still feels good to see Syracuse get taken down though.

It's funny, years ago I didn't like Boeheim beacuse he was a whiny little b*tch but in more recent years he mellowed out and I really started to like him, well I'm back to being very sick of him. This is clearly him trying to minimize the tournament because he realizes one of his team's goals was not met, you can see the pressure building up for him. His past tournament failures have put an immense amount of pressure on him to at least make a final 4 this year.

another thing that bothers me about boeheim is he never knows whats going on in his program. my assistant coach and friend for over 30 years was molesting young boys? i never knew a thing about it. multiple players on my team failed drug tests? i knew nothing about that. come on man! smdh

Doesn't really bother me except for the fact that its clear that UConn has legitimately played 'Cuse very close the past 2 games. Regardless, I wouldn't expect Boeheim to say anything else. His school is leaving the conference. He will be playing in greensboro from now on. He has to say that.

I am not sure I will feel the same about the BET after 'Cuse and Pitt leave.

To see if it matters or not, just look at uconn.... We have never sniffed a national title without wining the BET

you don't consider making the final four, sniffing the national title?

Boeheim is in a tough position. First, his administration is forcing his hand and he has no choice but to support it. Second, and more important, his team hasnt played well in a month. As a coach, he will say anything to soften the blow in the minds of his players, but I think Boeheim is sensing his team hit a wall and is up for a major disappointment. I had an arguement the other night with a close friend and diehard Syracuse fan.....but if Syracuse doenst make the final four, not only was this season a major bust, but I think it tarneshes Boeheim's legacy. Outside of wins which is more a testament of longevity, Calhoun has accomplished more than Boeheim in half of the time! Wear that Orange fans!!!!!! go Huskies.
