Louisville's Slaughter Out for the Season

Terrible news. Prayers that her recovery is quick and complete.

Thanks for posting the update - not sure you are right about the 'seriousness'. Hope everything checks out and that she is allowed to resume her athletic career next year. Big blow to the Louisville team which seems to be snake bit in terms of player injuries to key players.

Scary as that is, it's even scarier to think of what might have happened if the "event" had occurred at another time or place. If it had to happen, she was lucky that it happened when she was surrounded by caring people, qualified enough to see to it that she got the proper care.

Best wishes to her, and I hope to see her healthy and back on the court next year.

What a terrible news! She is such a talented player! My thoughts and prayers for her full recovery!

I am really sorry that this was Cardiac in nature and relieved that nothing more serious occurred.
This is one of the sweetest kids in the game and it's a shame that she is now out for an extended time.

A question for those of you who may know more than I do. If this medical issue means she is unable to play for the remainder of this season, can she red shirt and not lose this year of eligibility.

UL has 31 games on the schedule, not including post-season play. IIRC , the new rules for redshirting that came along a few years ago drew the line at 30% of the season's games. She was injured in the 9th game, so it looks to me as though she should qualify for a redshirt year.

Others with more detailed info may have a different take.

My prayers are with her and her family.

Such a shame. The good news is she will get good health care and recover. Hopefully she is able to resume her basketball career at some point down the line.

Wow. Prayers for her and her family. As HD pointed out, not that you EVER want anything like that to happen to anyone, but it was fortuitous that it occurred with so many caring people around so they could get her the help she needed without delay. I hope she has a speedy and complete recovery...

Really sorry to hear this. Prayers for a full recovery first and foremost and the possibility she will be able to resume playing the game.

It is terrible. Most importantly, and thankfully, it appears she is going to be ok.
Ironically, this is the exact thing that happened to freshman Kyvin Gooden-Rogers (former louisville commit that went to KY). In Rogers case, she had chest pain during a practice, and was taken to a doctor where it was discovered.

Beyond the obvious health concerns it is a terrible blow to the team. However, we battled through last season with significant injury. I expect this will only make the team stronger in the long run. A terrible loss though.

Tough blow for Louisville, but thankfully she's ok! My dad(who's a doctor)says PE's happen a lot to young females and they can be dangerous.

Very true! A pulmonary embolism of sufficient size and location to cause a syncopal event (collapsing) has a very high rate of mortality. She is very fortunate to be alive.
