Louisville game

After reading Nan’s response, I see what you did there. Louisville fan. Strip club.

You will see me defend Walz, you’ll never see me defend Pitino.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks.

Yup. It was just a joke. Honestly have fun in CT and let's hope for a close competitive game. Best of luck.

I agree with Nan re Willington Pizza, especially if you're bringing the family. Geno's is good too, and it's right on campus. There is also a really good Italian restaurant -- Francesca's -- in my town (Coventry), which is only a few miles down Rt. 275 from campus. It's easy to find (on Main Street just down and across the street from Bidwell Tavern). Francesca's is small, so I would definitely recommend getting reservations. If you like wings, the Bidwell is a good place to go. I'm not as keen on their other dishes, but they're known for their wings. It's been there forever and the bar has a lot of atmosphere. (The dining room is newer.)
Would also agree with Coyote Flaco on Rt. 32 in Mansfield. It's our favorite Mexican restaurant (not quite as Americanized as some are and we love their margaritas) and is easy to get to with plenty of parking. Willimantic Brewery is also good -- take Rt. 195 from UConn to Rt. 32 in Willimantic (turns into Main Street) -- no turns needed. It's the old post office converted into a brew pub. Nachos are awesome and they have a great selection of local beers. Across the street from Willi Brew is Cafe Mantic (one of my faves). They use really fresh ingredients and serve everything a la carte, so it's fun to order several dishes and share them, kind of like tapas. Hope you find everything about your visit awesome -- except, of course, for the outcome of the game!

Is Angelinos still open? I believe it was like ten minutes down the road on 195.

Both of my daughters lived in the apartments at storrs center across from the campus. There are a lot of places to eat here. One of my favorites is Dog Lane Cafe for breakfast or lunch meals. The food is good and priced well. Blaze pizza in Storrs center is excellent too. Yes you have to go to the Dairy Bar for some real ice cream made fresh . The resident cows work hard to make it possible.

No, it closed a couple years ago. I think there is still one in Vernon though -- across from Home Goods.

Topsail, I was going to mention Dog Lane too -- I love their ginger lemonade. And the Dairy Bar ice cream is the best. They used to offer my favorite (coconut) only in the summer, but since the president mentioned it's her favorite I see it's on the menu year-round. :-)
I've heard about Blaze, but never been there. Is that where they make make your pizza to order (sorta like Moe's)?

Oh that's too bad, I had many good meals there. I remember the Vernon location not quite as good.

Having been out to the Yum Center a few years ago for the Regionals when UConn was sent to Nebraska, do not expect the same type food one gets there. Eat, dine, wine before you get to Gampel

Sounds like I just need to eat before I leave Louisville. . We are spoiled here, we have a fantastic food scene. If you are a foodie, Louisville is a great place to visit. You all are not very encouraging about dining options.

Sounds like, other than the game, any extras to the trip will take place in Hartford.
Looking forward to what I hope is a competitive, close, healthy game.

I will be flying in for the game on Feb 12. My flight leaves on Tuesday around 4:00.
I’ll be staying at a B&B near campus. Any suggestions on things I should see or do in my very short window of time on Tuesday? A restaurant I shouldn’t miss? ( flying in and out of Hartford). Thanks for any tips.

Welcome to CT jennyo70! Enjoy your visit

The best food is in New Haven, IMO, near Yale. You can also get some amazing seafood at the shoreline. If you’re here for a few days, go down to the Mystic area. Lots to see and do there. We’re not giving you great options because Storrs is in the middle of nowhere. The casinos (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun) have some great restaurants. You don’t have to go into the casinos proper to get to the restaurants and indoor mall or arena.

Indeed. Ranked #1 actually. A few years outdated, however.

Nothing great around Storrs, however there's something so friggin awesome about eating at Willimantic Brewing Co. (aka Willy Brew). The food isn't fantastic, but good enough. You go to have a nice dinner with some really great friends in a very old, historic building. Don't be surprised if your neck hurts after looking up and around the entire property.
:D
