While not in D.C. how about Alumni Hall or the Halsey Field House at the United States Naval Academy? Halsey Field House is now a multi-purpose arena but used to serve as the home of the basketball team. Both Alumni Hall and the Halsey Field House have a capacity of 5000 or over and can certainly accommodate this game.
Naval Academy. Beautiful Arena. Everything there is perfect. $20 for a good seat.

I believe the game is for the military, not for non-military fans and that no tickets will be available
Alumni Hall in Annapolis holds approximately 5,700 fans. There are a limited number of enlisted personnel and staff at the Academy and then you’re talking about the Midshipmen, who may or may not be interested in attending a WBB game between 2 teams, neither of which are the Naval Academy.

The game starts at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday, which probably conflicts with dinner and perhaps other scheduled Academy activities. I suspect that after getting an idea of how many tickets are needed for Academy personnel, there will be some kind of general sale to outside fans.

I'm just glad that the game will go on as scheduled and hopefully that the mission beyond the game can be honored (in honoring military personnel).

It was unclear on the USNA website, however, there may be limitations on who can visit the Yard right now.

Except when Navy plays Army, there are never more than a handful of Midshipmen at any navy basketball game. I’ve been to 20 games there over the years and have yet to see any significant number.

The Naval Academy and the US Naval Yard in DC are two different locations. The Naval Academy is very much a college campus set within the city of Annapolis. Years ago I attended a Navy football game there, and while parking is a pain in the behind, you never got the feeling that you were at a military base with any restriction of movement.

The enrollment at the Naval Academy is approximately 4700. So if every Midshipman and pretty much every military instructor, staff and family member attend the game, there will still be seats available. At a minimum, I would expect Azzi’s parents to travel over to the game from their home in nearby Arlington, VA. 😉

I was gonna say, it's basically a home game for Fudd (and Fisher too).

I’m well acquainted with the Naval Academy. The football stadium is not on campus. It has an abundance of parking. It’s across Taylor Avenue. The basketball arena is on-campus. To get on-campus generally you have to walk on and show your ID at a guard station. There are a couple of entry points. For big hoops games, one can park at the football stadium and take a shuttle bus to the hoops arena.
I had running routes on campus, so I went there often. Every square inch of the campus is brilliant. There’s a great Naval History Museum on campus. John Paul Jones is buried at the Chapel, gorgeous. John McCain’s small grave is a must stop on campus too.
I like walking, so I’m rarely caught in parking snafus. On non-game days I used to park at the baseball stadium’s tiny lot about 10 feet outside the guard station. I’m in ME now, so I can give away my secrets.

As one who made Washington D.C. my home after the military for over 20 years, there are literally thousands of military personnel stationed at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Annapolis which supports the U.S. Naval Academy plus nearby Ft. George Meade which is home to service members from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. If the intent is to make this for the military, there should be no problem in filling the seats with solely military personnel even despite the government shutdown.

That presumes that tickets will only be available to middies and not to existing personnel and different service branches. In any event, even if it were just open to the Academy, I would fully expect students would jump on board for a game that is being televised on ESPN. (I also think you underestimate the UConn women's basketball brand value. Our playing in a game is a little different than a a game between say Ryder and Montclair State.)

Possibility: a requirement of some sort for the Middies and Academy personnel to attend since the game is somewhat ceremonial.
One of the great "events" I have witnessed a few times regarding the Naval Academy is pre-game football when all the Midshipmen line up on the field in their battalions in dress uniforms. Can't help but, in awe, realize that these people are our country's finest.
(add to that, a flyover, and "Danger Zone" blaring on the stadium sound system) Damn, let's go!

Annapolis is a great place to see a game! Have you ever been to a game at West Point? Those are a blast as well.

"Dinner" at the Naval Academy? They probably give them 15 minutes to eat--especially the plebes--so they should have plenty of time to watch a game thereafter.

No, West Point is on my bucket list. How far from the Tappan Zee Bridge?
I taught MS Science on the Fort Meade base. (MacArthur MS) Here's a goofy story: I took a wrong turn getting off the base one day and ended up at the National Security Agency with soldiers and M16's pointed at me. Oops

I attended “ the other college” in Annapolis in the ‘70s and in those days the campus was pretty much open to the public. Sometimes you had to show some sort of ID at the gate, but often not even that. I often ran on Farragut field mornings. I still have ‘mid’ friends from those days. Security has changed a bit since then, and it’s probably a good thing.

Side note, one of my novels is set in the Yard.

St. John's College. You're a humanities person. Are you allowed to publish the title of your book? Did you crew?
A typical trip for me was: a swim at the olympic swim center, a run at the academy, leave my car and walk downtown (by your college), lunch and a couple pints at the Castlebay Irish Pub, stop at Trader Joe's and back to the Eastern Shore. I love Annapolis.

Probably between 30 to 40 minutes. It's a relatively easy drive though. After the bridge, you can either take the Palisades Parkway north, which is probably fastest, or I 87 north. It's a relatively easy drive. Pretty too.

The campus is beautiful and the view down to the river is gorgeous. One fun thing is that every cadet squad (?) has its own mascot so there might be a dozen or 15 mascots in the stands. Get there early to see the cadet parade, if possible, and be sure to head down to "the monuments" either before or after the game. I found army fans to be very friendly and it's not unusual to get invited to someone's tailgate after the game.

In my day, I believe Castlebay was known as the Little Campus Inn. It was a great hang out. Behind the bar hung a photo of one unnamed midshipman. If you asked the bartender who that was, they’d say, “He was the one who tipped.”

Of course I jest. I know many mids who were great tippers. One year, a few classmates rented a house directly opposite Gate One which became a “notorious” weekend party destination. We heard the mids were cautioned about being seen entering. There weren’t really many parties, but reputations grow on very little information.

My books are military/spy thrillers with a martial arts theme. Not exactly to everyone’s taste I expect. I’ll send you a link by dm.
