Looks Like ACC CCG Dergulation WIll Pass

I would be pretty surprised if UCONN went to the B12. We would be the extreme outlier for the conference and the conference is already bemoaning the fact that WVU is an outlier. From a cultural standpoint, we don't have much in common with Texas, OU, okielite (oh no, would that mean we would have to lift the BY ban on that fool??), Texas Tech, etc. But, B12 is 1000x better than where we are in the AAC and we'd all open the jump with open arms! And the travel is essentially the same as it is now for us in the AAC so no real change there...but a HUGE bump to media coverage, credibility and buzz.

I wonder if we'll hear some of these "high placed source" rumors in the next 6-12 months to try to pressure the B1G or ACC into an invite (?).
This is the kind of opening we(UConn) need to accelerate this slow efin AAU process to keep our head above water finacially, recruiting etc etc...no u know i want the big eastern schools to stay together. Keep ur fingers crossed!!Good luck..

UConn to the Big 12-2 is borderline crazy.
Cinn and UConn together make more sense.

Or that when the NCAA thing shakes out it will be a lot better in a P5 conference.
The doors of access will be closed.
I still think our presidents goal is the B1G. But that may be years away.
I think Cinncy and possibly the 2 Fla schools were also mentioned as possibilities? I guess they need to expand there limited footprint into bigger markets to stem the ACC!?!

If UCONN were added to the B12, I think it would only be as part of a HUGE move by Bowlsby to expand by maybe 4-6 schools. UCF and Cincinnati would definitely be in the mix. I'd expect that they dial up BYU and see if there's any interest in joining. USF would give the conference a two school dip into Florida to help create an edge in recruiting and combining the Orlando/Tampa markets would be great for TV. Memphis might get consideration (academics are not of concern to the B12) for their basketball, decent market and recruiting ground, and bigger football stadium (think growth potential). Maybe even Temple to give us a northeastern rival if they decide that their lease increase at the Linc from $1M to $2M per game is too much and building their own stadium is the right move.

I do not see UCONN being added by ourselves though. Also, I'm giving this "high placed" rumor from a RU board waaaaaaaay too much credit. I have zero proof that the rumor originated from West Virginia and, thus, has no factual rumor backbone. :)

No thats not the reason...the reason is were better educated in the NE as to the dangers of allowing or exposing our young to the real dangers(as much as it dismays me) of HSFB by parents. We soon may find CFB unrecognizable(also dismaying) in the near future and have maybe Lax try to fill the gap? I hope not!?! FB is FB and great athletes are great athletes even in Maine...nothing but ignorance is superior in the south IMPO. The culture though WILL CHANGE with the rapid northeastification of Fla/Ga and all the other low tax states!
Ah yes, if only the parents of kids in Maine were not so well educated about the dangers of football that state would produce as much football talent as FL. And once a bunch of Jersey types overrun FL, FL will produce no more football talent than New England.

Jersey thinking apparently is something special. It belongs in the BeeOneGee.

I don't buy the Southern football is better than Northern football, but I do buy that the Southern schools have devoted more resources to winning than the Northern schools. And I do buy that Southern high school players are more fully developed in high school than Northern high school kids. (And it certainly helps the SEC schools by over signing and running off players.)

Think about this. Have Northern schools like Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, ... ever hired (and paid) top football coaches? Penn St had an elderly Joe Paterno way past his prime. (Clearly, PSU is on the upswing with the James Franklin hire.) Michigan has floundered over the past few years with bad coaching fits. Honestly, the only Northern school that has been totally committed to football over the past decade has been Ohio St. (West Virginia and Cincinnati have had success with good coaches, but the coaches eventually left.)

Compare this to the SEC. South Carolina, never a power in the SEC, hires Steve Spurrier to become relevant. LSU hires Les Miles after floundering for a few years. Alabama hires Nick Saban to rebuild the program. Texas A&M hires Kevin Sumlin. Arkansas hires Brett Bielema from Wisconsin. And on and on.
And the vast majority of the players on those many ranked and national champion teams come from the south.

When you have teams from the midwest - let's say the midwest and the northeast - win 9 consecutive national championships with each of those teams overwhelmingly made up of players from the midwest and northeast, your analysis will make sense.

The Bugeyes hired Urban Meyer precisely because he can recruit FL and other southern states.

You knew what i was talking about! No need to act snarky like certain trollish posters here..

Then why does the U seem to like NE guys and even FSU recruiters are usually NY'NJ types?? We exported great coaching and talent down south not visa versa.

Or maybe at ND with easterner BK as HC after CW!! Get off you're underachieving high horse clown.

It's more than that. If the ACC champ beats a 8-4 team in the conference championship game it could hurt the winner relative to other conference champions for inclusion in the playoff.

Agreed.

Replacing the B1G schools on the schedule is a sacrifice. The buzz in the midwest when the B1G schools take on ND is huge. ND vs. Virginia doesn't move the needle. But ND has to do it. They need to stay independent as long as possible. But at the end of the day... B1G!

The Midwest is going to have to get a Buzz now over Rutgers. ND is gone.

.-.
How many times have we played Virginia for you have an idea how the game pushes the needle?

We are not joining the BeeOneGee. At any time in any way.

ND has played UVA exactly 1 time, in 1989 in the Meadowlands. UVA got clobbered. ND's first game after winning the National Championship. It got UVA warmed up because the very next week UVA went into State College and beat Penn State.

ND has never played a football game in the Commonwealth of Virginia. When you come to Charlottesville in 2015 it will be the first. We look forward to it.

You guys sound more like old BE fans after each passing day.

If you say so. Jack Swarbrick is dropping Big Ten schools from his future schedules as we type. He'll honor the remaining games on their existing contracts, but he's not extending any. They'll still play Big Ten teams sporadically down the road, but no long term contracts.

Meanwhile, every one of those Midwestern schools will need to get used to Rutgers football. They will be added to their schedules.

That's precisely the point. Very little history with these South Atlantics.

I don't know. 34 football games against Georgia Tech, 25 football games against Miami, 18 football games against UNC Chapel Hill.

It's not the 84 games against Michigan State or the 78 games against Purdue, but 69 games against Pittsburgh is in that ballpark, and rivalries can be made from Georgia Tech, Miami, and UNC.

We've been over this. Swarbrick's alternative was to drop independence.

Much of the problem has to do with both the Big Ten and Notre Dame nearly simultaneously going to an odd-numbered conference schedule. Everybody wants to maintain a favorable number of home games to balance the budge.

Everybody should go to Mr Jefferson's University, at least to visit. I have no doubt that all ND fans who get tickets will enjoy the trip and be happy to return.

What he has dropped is the Big Ten conference from further consideration in this century anyway. And he is dropping Big Ten schools from Notre Dame football schedules. This is what prompted Jim Delany's threatened feelings and desperate additions. That's why I said they need to get used to Rutgers in the Big House. Notre Dame has played its last football game there for a long, long time.

Again, Swarbrick had no alternative. You are ignoring the #1 factor in all this. ND needed a conference. The ACC accepted ND while allowing football to remain independent. How can that fact be consistently ignored? It defies belief.

Swarbrick had several alternatives. He could have remained in the Big East with the Catholic 7. He could have joined the Atlantic 10. The Big XII was courting Notre Dame with the exact same option that the ACC had. The Texas AD was working that deal personally. He could have remained independent and joined the Atlantic 10. He could have stayed in the AAC. Instead he gave up almost half of his football schedule to a conference and kept the other half independent. He did so because he wasn't all that excited by the AAC bowl lineup, and he didn't want to try to freelance for bowls like BYU has to do. And the Big XII doesn't offer conference football games in the big cities on the east coast that he wants to have his football team visit.

The Catholic 7 don't have a good array of Olympic sports, never have. They are bareboned. ND in the A10? Why? When the ACC will take them? The options you are presenting are not options. The key is the ACC offered them partial membership.

But, for the decision makers in the ACC, the addition of UConn would have to make economic sense. That is what I meant by saying that I don't pay the bills for the ACC schools. Revenue gain for the ACC is not a big deal to me. It is paramount to the guys making the realignment calls, though.
ESPN makes all the economic decisions for the ACC.

ESPN already suggested UConn to the ACC. Petty politics and fear kept UConn out, not money.

We seem to have to explain this to every ignorant, self-important P5 that stumbles into these threads.

So did the Big 12.

But that is beside a key issue: most you bitter UConn fans keep asserting that ND wants nothing but football independence. We could have kept football independence in the BE or the Atlantic 10. Instead, we chose partial football membership because being in the ACC is best for ND.

.-.
100% This

The Irish influence already has been tangible. The ACC’s television deal with ESPN was expected to net each member $17 million each year.

Once Notre Dame committed, a renegotiation bumped that projection up to $20 million."

This is an accurate assessment and observation of one of the reasons why both ND and the ACC came to an agreement as they did... on terms beneficial to both that both could live with.

I'm so happy you've joined us here at the boneyard only to discredit any difference in ideas, call everyone in the B1G a childish nickname, and your newest trend to refer to us all as bitter.

Best move on the board is Bowlsby tapping UConn, Cincy, USF, and UCF. UConn should be happy with the East Coast schools and generate awesome FB recruiting ties in FLA, TX, and our natural NE/NJ/Penn/VA/Maryland base. In 5 years this new conference would easily outdistance B1G, PAC 12, and obviously the ACC in fb. UConn playing Texas or OK in Metlife would spur new interest in this solid solid FB conference. With a declining ACC and B1G, UConn could well rise up as the NE FB powerhouse.

BB wise the conference would be equal to any other. Travel is worse than the ACC/B1G, but when my overriding belief that this conference in 5 years would be tops in FB all else will be tolerable. Plus UConn gets to sell its tier TV rights to generate more interest and cash.

That's exactly what ND is all about. ND only cares for itself and could careless about the conference. This is why ACC will end up just like the old BE once ESPiN is done protecting it. ACC is looking more and more like the old BE everyday. When ACC blows up, ND will simply find a new home somewhere else.

This is exactly why UCONN needs to find a stable home in another conference. Hopefully, it is the B1G since we are now a perfect fit for it. We certainly don't want to repeat what happened with the old BE again.

You could not have kept your sports in the Catholic 7 because the Catholics don't have a full array of Olympic sports. And really, the A10? You call us bitter. You're dense in the head.
