Looking forward to Holy Cross

This will not be an analysis of the Holy Cross team, about which I know almost nothing. It's just an aside from a long-time BYer who happens to be a Holy Cross graduate (am I the only one here who is? Don't know.) Fact is, they didn't have women's baslketball during my years at Holy Cross. Heck, they didn't even have women. Guess I have pretty thoroughly dated myself with that comment.

Women were admitted the year after I graduated and methinks it was a damn good thing. To be honest, there was something kind of medieval about the place as an all-male institution, and not medieval in a good way. If college is supposed to be one's introduction to the real world, it's probably best that the college population at least somewhat resemble the world that students will enter into.

Anyway, UConn should win this game easily. The HC team does not seem anywhere near as skilled as the ones that UCOnn would occasionally play (and beat handily) in the past. Forgive me for going all philosophical on you. It's been a long week. Hope you all had a greatThanksgiving.

Went to school down the road (WPI), and should have visited HC campus more often. I was always amazed how they squeezed the football stadium in, right next to the highway.

I went to an engineering school where the ratio was about 80% men and 20% women. There was a saying about the school "Where men are men, women are scarce, and sheep are nervous."

I’m a graduate from Clark! I attended when Wally Halas was our point guard and we actually beat Holy Cross. Halas won the Cousy award IIRC.

Sometimes there is an agreement that if Holy Cross will play UConn in one sport (I know there have been hockey and football games between the schools) that there will be a game vs a marquee UConn team. Football has been able to leverage games with some good teams that way

I believe there might have been some connection between Geno and long-time men's coach George Blaney, who retired a number of years ago. Most likely this year's game was a matter of UConn needing one more and Holy cross being geographically close.

Blaney retired in 2013. He was a UConn men’s team assistant from 2000-2013

So, my wife’s Grandmother passed away 20 years ago. She was the secretary to the President at Holy Cross for many years and then retired at Worcester Jr College. Also spent some time at Clark. My wife was born in Worcester. My wife is excited for this game. Pretty cool that Geno scheduled it.

Heinson and Cousy never moved to Boston, just commuted together from Worcester, where Cousy still resides in his ninty's I believe

Their invitation to the Big East was single-handedly shut down by Father Brooks, who was the longtime president of Holy Cross. Brooks stated that “we are not in the entertainment business”, and did not want Holy Cross to participate in a league that he thought would hurt their academic mission. I am also looking forward to the game. My late brother-in-law was the athletic chaplain at the Cross for almost 40 years and the Lacrosse field has been renamed in his honor. Our many visits there are a fond memory.

I didn't know that. It must be very interesting getting 4 head coaches and 2 ADs to all agree. Someone will need to "take one for the team" to coin a phrase. Then there needs to be holes in the schedules that need to be filled.

Wally was a great grad from Fairfield Prep. The Halas family were great people.

I did not know this, but it sure sounds like the Fr. Brooks that we all knew. He once famously said something to the effect that it was not important whgether HC graduates got jobs because of their college education, that HC wasn't in the business of getting students jobs; it was in the business of teaching them to think. With Brooks, you knew exactly where you stood.
