Without crying. Huskies had 22 more shots from the field. Outrebounded Maryland by 11. 18 on the offensive end. 5-12 from the FT line. 32% from the field, 30% from three. Just a horrendous offensive performance. Yes, Maryland played great defense. But 54 points?

Disappointing performance after a 5 year wait to get back. Head bang

We hit FTs we probably win.

Shooting from the field was bad enough, but Bouk missed 3 FTs at the end—one a front end—after Maryland had started playing too slow. They gave us a chance and we just missed shots

That's what happens when you haven't been on the big stage.

So when are one of UConn's "shooting" high profile recruits going to actually be able to shoot? Next year right?

It's not the stage --- it's the actor.

What the box score says:
  • Cole and Martin were atrocious around the rim
  • We were never able to take advantage of Sanogo's size advantage on offense, as I pretty much expected
  • Not enough from Bouknight, especially choked at the line
  • Andre Jackson a complete non-factor despite what everyone expected
  • Nice game for Gaffney

The good news is that we had great effort today—no doubt about that.

Unfortunately this team has lacked the clutch gene all year long. All year we would clench our cheeks when things got tight at end of games. Not sure if the clutch gene can be learned or not. Maybe we can lock the returning players in the gym for the summer with Kemba and Shabazz and see if they can rub off on them.

Are people just going to let Gaff off the hook for trying to throw the ball off the back of a defender? Totally killed all momentum we had just gained and allowed them to slow the pace and recollect.

This game was so crazy all the way around, clearly and unfortunately deer in headlights type moments for many of the players.

Bouknight choked in every game that mattered except for the insane 40+ point night.

Look at our offense in the tail end of season. Tonight was an extension of that.

Maryland had 50% FT shooters cashing both FTs and Bouk couldn’t hit front ends of 1 and 1s. After Cole got the lane violation it was just too big of a sign that it wasn’t in the cards for us today. Very disappointing performance indeed.

As soon as Whaley fouled their big while hitting a 3 I knew we were in trouble.

That proved that the size mismatch was working only in their favor.

But each year gets better. We made the dance. I don't think Bouk fully recovered from the injury time out. When you are the star of the team and miss free throws. something is wrong. In addition, he has been getting picked a lot. When Polley come on the court I am waiting for that barrage of threes. People pick him apart. Have you seen the defense on him? His has been blanketed since that great game he had. Sonogo needed to stay in. Martin has been absent for 4-5 games. Then Cole hitting the floor didn't help. Gaffney is the only player that says "screw it" and tries to get us back in the game. I was looking forward heading to The Battle of Atlantis. Let's see who comes back. It should be interesting.

That is very true. And keep in mind. By taking this job. Hurley hasn’t been here in 3 years either.

We did the same thing against Creighton and St Johns on a smaller stage. I agree with you with everything. Just hard to tell whether it was the big stage.. or just who we are. A poor shooting team. Layups, foul shots, 3's. Regular season or tourneys. We sure didn't discriminate this year when it came to missing. When, where, who, how far, didn't matter.

It’s both. This was who we are against good teams. The team simply had not been on a big stage. This is how it played out at MSG in the BET and NCAA. Our team is not young but inexperienced in big games against top teams. Take a look at Maryland’s top wins and it supports this point well. They had wins against a number of good teams in the tournament. These are the games where experience and coaching is more critical. It’s why they lost 3 games to Creighton which is hard to do when you’re a good team. Creighton has experience, clutch players and big wins over the last few years under their belt. This is why that 3rd loss to them was so difficult.

We also got completely outcoached somehow by the most basic read from any idiot competitor. 5-out. We had no counterpunch and Turgeon rocked Hurley without trying in the first half. Almost laughable how simplistic the approach was without any resistance.

Our offense was typical as any big game -
disorganized and ugly. But that’s not new as we normally shrivel in close games. We are good at front running though.

Starting guards were horrid. Total of 38 shots, just 26%

Looking at the official boxscore is worse we had 22 ORBs and only 11 second chance points. Our first scoring possession which ended in a RJ 3 we had 5 or 6 ORBs alone!!

The missed layups/lack of fouls called in the first half were the story of the game.

But they were deer in the headlights for the majority of that game. It’s weird that they played their worst basketball of the season in the biggest game, and how that always seems to happen with Hurley’s teams. Their half court offense in the second half was truly horrendous.

That's what hurt the most, IMHO. Shots weren't falling but the guys busted ass to get within 5, with a chance to make it a one possession game.

Any other year, you think we can close out the comeback. Not this time. Bonehead lane violation, dumb turnover, missed FTs. Hope dashed.

Book might be a better talent than Bazz, but I think Bazz would've found a way

Where was the nash drill when ya need it. I know Ollie isn’t as respected as he once was, but that drill was largely responsible for that championship.
