New official world record in London.

Sabastian Sawe won it in one hour 59 minutes and 30 seconds, He is from Kenya.
Second place went to Yomif Kejelcha...from Ethiopia,,,his time also broke the olde
record. Sawe gave great credit to the crowd for their encouragement thruout.
A flat course.

I will try to provide a link to an article....first effort a flopperoo.

Centerstream: a darn good question. I'm afraid my answer is kinda simple minded...maybe not
'kinda". I go to the women's board first...maybe 99% of the time. Men's hoop the other times.
I barely look at any other board...just not nearly as interested. Maybe I should give it a go?

I am thankful that Nan permits OT threads on our board...especially in the off-season. I particularly
enjoy reading responses to threads by Boneyarders who I feel I have gotten to know over all these years...my threads or those by others. I may try to use YOUR curiosity to expand my mine.....uhh...no guarantees.

Go Huskies...whatever the sport!

For about 10 years, I would tell a good friend of mine that I had a strategy for winning a Marathon. It was a very simple strategy. In fact it was so simple that I was surprised that no one had ever utilized this method to win a marathon.

One weekend, I decided to run my first marathon. Up until this point I had never run more than 5 miles at one time in my entire life. But, how hard could it be knowing I had this unique strategy. There was absolutely no reason for me to train to run a marathon..

So, let me explain this innovative and unique method that I surmised would work so effectively in easily winning a marathon. I would just find some Kenyans and run with them the entire race, right up until the very end, and then I would sprint like hell to the finish line. It was a perfect plan, and nearly foolproof.

So of course, when I returned home, my friend’s first question was, “Did you win? Was your method successful?”

Sadly, I explained that someone must’ve tipped them off because they let all the Kenyans start a couple hundred meters in front of the rest of the field, and I was never able to pace with them until the end. But I swear, if they had let me start with them, I could’ve won.

That first mile at 4:40 might have been a shock to your system! 😁

London is a fast course, but no place is a 1:59 course. Three runners broke the old world record, and two of them ran under 2:00. The female course record was also broken. Amazing! Congrats to them!
Kenyans and many from other African countries have occupied the elite marathon class for some time but the weather was also prime with starting temps around 11-12 degrees C (52-53 F) rising. to approx 64-66 F with low humidity and light easterly winds. Nearly perfect running conditions, however maybe a little warm at the end for the majority of runners but not the elite runners who were finished well before.
