OT: LOL - The world’s most flamboyant soccer ref

Whoa. I was a youth ref a long time ago in CT and the most I did was:

1 - a long loud whistle to stop play and go speak with coaches about a highly caffeinated dad at 7:45 in the morning, explaining that under 9 players slipping on dewy grass wasn't a foul, and "this isn't the world cup", and

2- walking over to a very demonstrative and boisterous coach and miming the actions "you", "no speak", "anymore"

The "referee" is from soccer-mad BraziI. I assume that it is a "Harlem Globetrotters" like benefit performance and maybe a game played by retired name athletes with him officiating. Very tongue-in-cheek.

In Connecticut there is a very active adult amateur league. A number of the teams are ethnicly oriented and team pride is all important to them. It's like the World Cup. The Jamacians play the Irish. The Italians play the Costa Ricans. You get the idea. Their games are officiated by locally trained USSF referees who cannot afford to make a mistake much less grandstand. It's dangerous.

As one who taught USSF refereeing for a lengthy period in the past, I would advise all referees to NEVER seek to be the center of attention.
