Sorry, Pioneer Press, but it only seems like every great player came through UConn. Some actually had the nerve to go to other schools.

Geno wasn't even at UVa. when Dawn played there.

If Dawn had gone to UConn, we might have had a NCAA title or two before 1995.

The next time we have a game at Gampel, someone should check the wall for Dawn's name.

If Tonya Cardoza had gone to UConn, the 1991 team gets to the championship game. Not sure, though, they could have beaten the 1991 Lady Vols, but, then again, Coach Auriemma is undefeated in national championship games.

I know Im getting old, and my memory isnt what it used to be... but I dont even remember Cardoza at UVA. Of course I remember Staley, Reiss, the Burge Twins, Dena Evans........ but cant recall Cardoza.

Yeah you are getting old, my friend. I remember her guarding Kerry Bascom in the FF game in 1991. She was guarding Kerry so tight, Kerry said that it felt like she had three players on her. Tonya was intense in that game.

NOTES: Connecticut saw its season end in the NCAA Final
Four semifinals, as No. 2 ranked Virginia handed the Huskies the
six-point loss, despite a terrific UConn defensive effort which
held UVa to 30 points below its season scoring average of 91.1
ppg... UConn, in its first ever trip to the Final Four, ended the season
at 29-5, with a school-record 29 wins... Virginia (31-2)
advanced to the NCAA Championship Game where it lost to
Tennessee, 70-67 in overtime... Cavalier senior forward Tonya
Cardoza hit four clutch free throws in the final two seconds, and
had a team-high 16 points and three steals to lift UVa to the win
before 7,931, the largest crowd UConn had ever played to...
Virginia led by as many as 14 points, but the "Cinderella Team"
from Storrs staged a comeback, outscoring UVa 16-5 to pull
within three points, 50-47, on Meghan Pattyson's layup with
5:54 remaining... Virginia then built the lead back to eight, 55-47
with 3:01 left, but UConn surged again, out-scoring the Cavaliers
6-0 to pull within two points, 55-53, on All-American senior
Kerry Bascom's spin layup with 26 seconds remaining... On the
Cavalier's inbounds play, Cardoza was fouled and sank both ends
of a one-and-one and on UConn's last possession, Cardoza
intercepted a cross-court pass and fed the ball to Melanie
Wagener for a layup at the buzzer... UConn junior Wendy Davis
had a game-high 17 points, while Bascom (14 points, season and
game-high 14 rebounds) and All-Kodak District I senior Laura
Lishness (six points, game-high six assists) closed out their
superb collegiate careers... UConn shot .385 (20-for-52) and UVa
hit .353 (24-for-68) of its shots.

You have the DVD so it would be foolish to disagree, but I do not believe Ms Gordon was on that 1991 Tennessee team that played Virginia for the national championship.

That is correct. Career ended in '89.
