I'm happy with our new husky logo... I understand the 'excessive' American Flag blue because that color is part of the essence of UCONN. Which leads me to ask... Here's a real Husky:

it's OK, but the other logo was so recognizable and distinct. This seems so similar to other Husky logo's. It does not brand us in a distict way the old one did.

This logo catches the true essence of a husky. My neighbor had a Siberian. When you looked him straight in the face, you saw those menacing eyes with the devious smile. You never were quite sure if he was happy to see you, or if he wanted to bite your face off. This logo catches that thought perfectly.

My in-laws have one too - I really don't like the dog, there's something menacing/creepy about it, even though they've always said he's uber-friendly.

Well, 75 years but who's counting? Nike had the toupee version on their computer already so that's what we got. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and it has been clear that Nike provided this logo for free.

They are both real, actual, honest to god huskies.
I just entered "Siberian Husky" into Yahoo images as if it is a representative sample of all Siberian huskies...I don't know? This unscientific sample did not produce the first all white husky dog until page 3. Again, I don't know what that means.

The new logo and typeface is growing on me.

Oh wait, that must be a Samoyed. I have no issue with a new logo but this new UConn logo is horrible. Took 14 months to come up with this? But the coaches and players had a say, so whatever. I've been into sports marketing for 20 years, around there. NIU's full body logo is cooler. I am going to buy an NIU shirt. duckk this.

Everyone that is saying a Siberian Husky is all white so its not a Samoyed does realize that our old logo doesn't look like a Siberian Husky right? The mascot and real Jonathon dog are Siberian Husky's but the logo looks exactly like a Samoyed. This logo actually looks closer to the mascot and real dog then the old logo ever did.

They will probably just give the current Jonathan his outright release or place him on waivers. UConn has retained a national search firm in their effort to secure the best Siberian Husky available and also set aside funds in the event that Husky has a significant contract buy-out clause.

We're clearing cap room, and will resign him as soon as he clears waivers as long as nobody else picks him up. There are lots of programs out there, that have been beaten down by the Huskies over the years, that would love to snatch him up, and bury him in a dungeon somewhere, but I doubt they'd invest the money to do it. Keep your fingers crossed that he clears waivers.

Butch,I'm with you. this didn't take 14 months. this took 14 seconds of some Nike "designer" top pull up Generic Husky/Wolf, slap the colors on it and there we are. Epic Fail.

Hate to disagree with such a dedicated fan but this does not look anything like a Husky. As a life long dogger and two of them Huskies this is simply a logo that is no more a Husky than that of the Atlanta Falcons' Falcon.

This looks like an over inflated football with a jaw and pointed ears. That and throw in some eye makeup. I do not like it one bit but I will wear it loud and proud because it is what I do. Susan dropped the ball promising something that looked more like a Husky but I will be fine for years as my old apparel wears out.

did you expect an actual picture of a Siberian Husky to be the logo. There is usually some artistic license given to logos. Not sure how anyone can look at that and not see a Husky or at worst a wolf.

My biggest problem is that when I saw it for the first time, I immediately thought I had seen something similar elsewhere. Checked the Washington Huskies (similar but facing sideways and more muted) and Timberwolves (different but similar concept and much meaner).

I'm biased to anything navy blue-ish.. so I like them both only... But the NEW logo CLEARLY looks more like a Husky than the old logo... Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder can probably see that....

In hindsight though, I'd still wear the old stuff... UCONN is still UCONN regardless...

It's amazing how much better I like the one that you linked versus the new Nike one, simply due to our traditional color of Jonathan. I just feel like the school has worked so hard to continue the all-white husky dog tradition (even with the one-blue eye!), that it seems silly that Nike ignored it in the logo creation...

It's interesting. I showed the new logo separately to about 20 kids and adults who are big Husky fans over the last few days. The kids were 8-12. The adults were in their 30's, 40's, 60's and 80's, lol. Since I didn't want one person's opinion to color another's, they were all seperate encounters. The outcome? I was very surprised at the UNANIMOUS dislike of the new logo. I fully expected one of them to go "Wow that's cool!" Never happened. When I asked the kids why they didn't like it the responses were essentially "It's ugly, it looks mean, and I loved Jonathan as he was. Some of the adults had similar thoughts. One person actually expounded on why they disliked it so.

"Our prior logo may not have been precisely a Husky, but that's what made him unique. It was iconic. When it showed up on TV you immediately knew it was UConn. The success of our teams over the past years with Jonathan as our logo had allowed it to be displayed a lot on the networks. If you showed a series of team logos and asked folks to identify the team, Jonathan would have been easily identifiable as UConn.This new version may more accuratley portray a Husky but so what--it's not unique to UConn. Show it on a TV screen before a highlight package and you'll be hard pressed to know what's coming--UConn? Washington? Northeastern? Someone, somewhere, somehow got too technical and lost sight of all the identity capital we had built up over the years. We had a unique representation that said UConn and we threw it away for canine accuracy. That's just not smart."

Will we get used to it? Probably. Will we sell more merchandise? Probably. Will I support it? Yes. But I'm frankly not impressed. If there was an on line vote of all alumni, I bet the new logo would be defeated in a landslide, and that's not the response the school was counting on.
