Seems like he wanted out in the worst way. First declares for the draft, now hes transferring. Thats definitely a blow to STJ and the league since he was their best player.

For what it's worth, Jeff Goodman's list of top sit-one transfers have Figueroa, McClung and Tyrese Martin at #4, #5 and #6:

4) L.J. Figueroa, 6-6, 195, SG, Jr., St. John’s
Stats: 14.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg
Scout’s take: “He’s a versatile player who brings toughness to the court, can score from inside and out, and could thrive in the right system.”

5) Mac McClung, 6-2, 180, G, Jr., Georgetown
Stats: 15.7 ppg
Scout’s take: “He’s a bucket-getter. When he’s on, he’s so tough to stop. But when he’s off, he can also shoot you out of a game. The talent is there, it just needs to be harnessed.”
Schools: Texs Tech, BYU, Auburn, Memphis, USC, Arkansas, Wake Forest

6) Tyrese Martin, 6-6, 205, G, Soph., URI
Stats: 12.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg
Scout’s take: “Talented and physical wing who made a huge jump from his freshman season. Competes, wants to win and someone that you want on your team.”

This is the kid St John's passed on since they wouldn't have a scholarship open to take him. Ended up at DePaul

Can't blame the young fella for inquisitiveness now can we.

The league has been decimated by early departures this spring like no other. No reason UConn can't compete for the title.

Good thing NBA teams (assuming he'd ever get there) don't say the name of their college like they do in the NFL, what would he choose? His elementary school probably. Can I just say, can the NFL stop that? It's beyond stupid hearing disgruntled players representing high schools and elementary schools.

I guess Figueroa screwed Coach Anderson as they held his scholarship for him when he backed out of the waters he tested for the NBA. They had a real good shot at a grad transfer from Monmouth had they had the space but he didn’t wait with his decision.

Overall, Altman does a nice job diversifying his influx of talent. Rare program that gets good transfers while also sign high end HS talent.

Nyc being in better shape is relative. It's a pretty constricted placed to live with those going on infections or no infections.

NYC is now in better shape than most parts of the country.
So in recruiting, schools like UCONN, St John's and Michigan can slam the rest of the schools for the recent upticks in the virus and rave about the massive improvement in their home states. Things have changed drastically in the past month. ;)

I could apply that argument to any urban school. In fact, if you look just at the campus where the players will live, work and study, it's hard to find a major college, urban or rural that doesn't have a high population density. The University of Oregon has an enrollment of 21,000 full time students on a 295 acre campus. That's about 45,000 per square mile (at least during the day when most are on campus plus faculty and staff). The population density of Queens is 21,000 per square mile. U of O, like every major college, is effectively it's own urban area. Add in the fact that they have students (along with their bacteria and viruses) from throughout the world and it becomes apparent that the "I'm transferring because of the disease" argument is a charade.

If they buy that argument they should just throw open the doors.

I watched SJU play several games last season and was unimpressed by Figueroa.

Figueroa is a shooter only and he keeps chucking even when his shot is not going in. He does not fit into new Coach Anderson's system that is uptempo end to end and relies on a long bench with no player playing more than 25 minutes per game.
