Watched Australia vs Japan. Australia won, wasn't impressed with either team. Japan could be dangerous if they hit their outside shots.

Watching Spain/Italy. Spain is fundamentally strong and in 1st half blowing out Italy. Spain looks like a medal contender.

Not an impressive start for team USA. Lead 12-4 after 1st quarter over China.

USA leads 26-19 at the half. At one time had a 22-6 lead, when China went on a 11-0 run. Run was poor play by team USA, not great play by China. USA has no rhythm on offense and IMHO not great defense by USA's guards. Should still comfortably win game

So far not a very good performance by the US. They are leading but on offense they miss open shots and on defense they lack some intensity. Hopefully they are better in the second half.

USA leads 51-32 end of 3rd quarter. Was more impressed with Spain's performance then USA so far. Spain seemed more fundamentally sound and had more rhythm to their offense. Could be jitters for USA in this 1st game. They play France tomorrow. That should be an interesting game as they lost to France in an exhibition game earlier this week.

We'll definitely be happy when Katie-Lou Samuelson comes to UConn. She has all the shots. Also for her size is a good ball handler and passer.

USA easily wins 69-41. Team played considerably better in the 2nd half. IMHO Samuelson player of the game. She had 22 points for the game.

I'm not sure why the criticism. These are 15 and 16 year old young women who are still in high school and whose bodies are yet to fully develop. Not to mention the coaching at the D1 level is considerable better than what they are getting at the moment. Over all I thought they played a very nice game. What did strike me was that I wasn't sure the US team wasn't playing a China team made up of both men and women. Some of their players looked like guys to me, young, but none the less guys. I'm sure it isn't true.

My initial take-away on Katie Lou is that she has an incredibly quick release on her three-point shots - and a very sweet motion. She will be a GREAT replacement of KML.

Only commenting/criticizing their play as they are playing against players of a similar age. Also USA has so much superior talent that some (me) would like to see better play. Some of the USA players have received so much hype that when they don't perform near the hype, you can be disappointed. I thought USA played closer to their talent level in the 2nd half and I'm sure the coaching staff is happy with the 2nd half. I was careful in my posts not to criticize individual players, but only the team as a whole in the 1st half.

Nice game, but slow. The US played with the speed of a high school team coupled with soft passes. I though China played a much crisper game, with harder passes ( just didn't have the US athleticism). I know these players are 16 and 17, but I expected a much sharper focus with these elite athletes. These traits are a function of coaching. Three players I thought went all out in effort were Dunn, Ionescu and Boykin. Most ready D1 bodies appeared to me to be Holmes, Anigwe , Ogunbowale and Boykin. Samuelson is a shooter, reminded me of KML in her freshman year - stand out past the three point line and catch and shoot. I am sure the UConn staff will teach her what KLM and Stewart have learned to a degree and are still improving - keep moving! All in all, just an OK performance by the team and coaching staff.

Why criticize when you get a 30 Pt. win? The even the best teams have had off Quarters..Halfs..Games over the years!!

A lot of those national teams play together a heck of a lot more than the USA team does. They train together all year and aren't playing in different schools with different coaching styles. USA wins a lot from sheer talent, but we don't have a centralized system like other countries do.

When I was criticizing Team USA's play they were playing down to China's level and only lead by 7 at half time. Also said USA should comfortably win the game which they did.

I have said it before that shortly Team USA will have to put teams together for a longer period of time as Europe is catching up to Team USA. Australia has had their team together for almost 9 months. Most of the European teams have been together for one or two months, even though some team members may play for National Academies.

watch more high school ball and you'll appreciate what you saw today. These girls can't be compared to UConn women

Some College Ball is unwatchable, never mind High School. :) Previously I have attended some High School games in my local area when there are highly rated players. Admit it doesn't happen frequently.

I dont think the coaches wanted to play Lou as much as they did considering the time missed with her illness. I think she will be OK.

Yes, I only watched a little bit, but Katie Lou's 3 pointer to end the first quarter was very quick and accurate, with beautiful form. I think the Chinese coach was scratching his head, thinking how do I defend that?
