Assuming we are fortunate enough to land Purvis, the potential for that team would be limitless if we're able to land a stud 3. Here is the depth chart the way I see it, if Deandre and Boat leave early. I know we'll stay heavily involved with Okafor, Chukwu and other big men but Ive put together a conservative short list with them off it.

Starters:
Nolan or Brimah
Facey
?
Calhoun
Purvis

Bench:
Samuels
Tolksdorf
Nolan or Brimah

Am I missing any commits for 2014?

Can anyone provide a good breakdown on where we are with some of the top 3s from 2014 please? We would need to add one or two more players to round out the roster but I think for a stellar 8 man rotation we just need that quality 3 to have legit Final Four aspirations the next 2 years.

I'm still not sold on Boatright being drafted after this season. Look at Russ Smith; it's still a question whether or not he's a 1st rounder, and he's taller than Boat and has put up terrific numbers this year. I think he anchors what could be a terrific team in 14-15.

Rico,

Neither am I. I just see Boat taking his first opportunity at decent money, especially since he entertained leaving early last year and we still haven't received confirmation he's coming back even next year. Under that assumption I left him off.

Boatright will be a four year guy if his head is screwed on straight (still confused on that). Samuels will probably play alongside Purvis. Both are good size and can play both guard spots. I hope we get a 3 with a good handle and jumper and we'll be in great shape.

I've seen a few people now on this board say Omar could leave after next year. Am I the only one who thinks that's a bit of a stretch?

No, because I agree with you.

Funky release on calhoun's shot will scare off nba teams. 3-4 year player.

If Omar makes an incredible leap in ball-handling over the summer, and then plays consistently throughout the year, he could be a first rounder. The first is a big "if" while the second is something I expect him to accomplish.

Didn't relies release matters, unless of coarse he can't shoot. But then teams wouldn't draft him to so.......

Youre not alone at all. I obviously agree with you or I would have omitted him from the 2014 list. I agree that his shot will scare some teams off and his handle needs to improve significantly to have any chance of leaving next year.

Also, if he helps recruit his boy to play here, I dont see him jumping ship the first year Purvis is eligible. Lottery money would change that, I just dont see it happening.

I wonder if guys like Bazz and Boat are realizing they won't play in the league so may as well go start playing overseas and then come back later and get their degree if they care.

It seems like today's player could care less about the college experience.

Heck, Zuckerberg, Gates, Jobs and others didn't go 4 straight years to college. No fault if they think this is their best move.

Ball handling is the key for Omar's development. His defense improved over the course if the year, but if he struggles in taking the ball into traffic at the college level (as he did for much of the year this year) he won't be ready for the NBA.

It's definitely a stretch, his ballhandling is suspect at this point and he's not a great athlete.

Don't rule out 100% that DD won't be around 2014. Very deep draft class next year might lower his stock. However, after a great final stretch this season, I think he's poised for an All (insert conference name here) year.

What has gotten into this board thinking that everyone is leaving early lately!?

First rumors of Boat and Shabazz leaving. Then DeAndre. Now, Omar is a lottery pick after next year?!

Guys, relax. Boat is probably a 4 year player due to his height, unless he makes a huge leap in his all-around PG play (including a more consistent shot). Omar will be here as well, too much to work on in his game.

People have been getting ridiculously carried away about people leaving early. Daniels is the only player on our roster now that might not be on the team in 2014. Boat is a huge stretch imo and if he left it would be a bad idea.

I see Boat leading this team at PG with Purvis (both playing 1/2) and Samuel getting backup minutes with Calhoun playing the 2/3. We would need a solid wing to replace Daniels as someone else said. If a few of our bigs develop at the 4/5 spot by then we could be formidable.

I agree on Bazz; he's ready to go overseas and play well. I'm not so sure at Boat's size that he'll even be ready for that after next season. If he seriously improves, then it's a definite possibility.

Are you kidding me? What on earth makes you think that? Listen, I like Omar and I think he's a good one.......and a great kid!! But he can't pass out of pressure and his ball handling is suspect at best right now. He is a 3-4 year player and that will be predicated on improving his weaknesses....dramatically!! And we'll be happy he is here too!!

Don't be surprised if it happens...he already showed significant improvement in the ball handling department during the season. If he didn't hurt his wrist, there would be significant national buzz about the kid blowing up next year.

Almost no one ever makes a great leap in ballhandling, shooting, strength, etc over the summer. Maybe minimal improvement but no big improvement

Wait huh ? omar is quite efficient and a hard worker with great size for a 2. nothing really screams four years from him, I'm expecting/hoping three. He basically got no attention this year but was great for a frosh.
