Let's start the week on a cheery note -- songs about Death! (Maybe second only to Love as a song subject)

Here is another song from the same album. This one is about a world after a nuclear war. A friend of mine described this album as having "nice music, depressing lyrics." I would have to agree.

If it wasn't such a banger, it'd be really sad.

Gone Away - The Offspring

Spoken words, not a song. but death is surely listening.

I know there are a few of us oldtimers who appreciate Fairport Convention and their lead singer Sandy Denny (who died way too young at 31 in 1978). This song is about the final days of Mary Queen of Scots who was beheaded at Fotheringay Castle.

This one is about the death of the steel industry in Pittsburgh. Anne Feeney, the artist, was my cousin and she died of Covid complications this year. She spent her life as an entertainer and labor activist. Quite a gal!

With apologies to Spinal Tap and Stillwater, Steel Dragon is probably the best ever fake band. 3/5 of the members are real deal rockers. And this isn't really Wahlberg singing, it's Milijenko Matijevic's voice from Connecticut's own Steelheart.

Here's another story about laborers who often died while they were at. Irish railroad workers.
