The last few days I've been reading a lot of threads about Uconn winning the NCCA this year and if not then they will win 3 in a row starting next year with Azzi etc coming.Well SC is losing 1 person,a non starter and have the #1 class arriving. They have #2,3,4,and 14 rated players coming. This class joining a team that blew 4 shots near the basket in the closing minute of regulation that would have otherwise beaten Uconn. So as good as it looks for Uconn the next 3 years SC is going to be loaded.Add that to a Stanford team that is pretty young and has the #1 rated player in 6'7" Lauren Betts coming in 2 years and they are looking very formidable. So let's slow down a little.Calling them pretty close to invinceable.People saying they would be shocked if they didn't win 3 in a row.As much as I'd like this to be like the Stewie years let's just enjoy this year and than see what happens.IMO if they make it to the Final4 this year it would be a tremendous accomplishment

No; never happened. When Paige sank her bounce 3 off the rim and into the net, it gave UConn a 4 pt. advantage with 10 seconds remaining. Nothing SC could do in "the closing minute" would have made a difference. The Gamecocks lost, period.
As for the future, no one knows what will happen. It's OK to speculate (ie, hope) about what may be; actually, it's fun. You emphasize the quality of the players. That's important but it's hardly the only or even the decisive element in a team's success. As Geno sez, if everyone knew how to win consistently and for decades, they'd all be doing it. He has.
The reference is to the end of regulation before OT

That's correct..score was tied when SC missed those 4 shots before the buzzer went off

A fair, grounded, realistic assessment in my opinion. Some great basketball and competition lies ahead of us. Big wins will have to be earned in big moments in potentially close games. Something we are not use to.

Aw, don’t rain on the parade. Getting excited about possibilities is one of the best parts of being a fan.

1 - The only place SC has the number 1 team is ESPN. ESPN are shills for teams they work with. Every other rating group has UConn #1. 2 - We've been there and done it, so we know what multiple championship lineups look like. When you've won more than 1 then you can chime in with an opinion.

The points about South Carolina and Stanford are quite true. I don't agree with Stanford having the number 1 incoming class. According to ESPN yes, according to more reputable and most other rating services no. Most have Uconn 1 and South Carolina 2, but regardless we can safely say that both schools are right at the top this year and have great incoming classes, and minimal graduation losses even if Evina departs.

Stanford is the current number 1 overall seed, has two great younger players in Jones and Brink, a good incoming class, and again modest graduation losses. So the analysis that there could be three supper teams next year makes sense. The biggest difference is this year the top 8 or so appear to be very closely bunched, with the gap between the best team and the 8th best team unusually small. Next year the gap between those three teams and everybody else grows substantially, and I would be very surprised if the national champion didn't come from those three. In some ways it will be like last year, when South Carolina, Oregon and Baylor were a significant notch above everyone else including Uconn.

We should be very very good next year and probably the favorite, but South Carolina and Stanford have many reasons to believe they can be right there as well, even if we do put far more distance between us and teams like NC State, Baylor, Texas A&M, Maryland, Louisville etc.

I'm as excited and as enthused as most of you.All I'm saying is some of you aren't being realistic.Saying they will be invinceable and you would be shocked if they didn't win 3 in a row is a bit too much. You could say that Stewie's senior year when she was the best player ,by far,in the nation..they had arguably the best power forward with Tuck and the best pg in MoJeff..I hope your all correct and they go on and break the consecutive win streak.I don't mind 50 pt blowouts at all..Just let's not hand out the trophy's yet..As great as the 11 NCAA's are because that's why they play I think the consecutive final 4's is a close 2nd and this year may be their toughest challenge to get past the elite 8

The freshmen aren't freshmen anymore. If they can handle the pressure of playing in the tournament I think they get past the elite eight, but it isn't a given.

The days of an undefeated powerhouse blowing past every Elite 8 team are gone. Whoever wins will have to do so by beating their opponents in the final minutes of a game. The advantage will lie with the team that had to go through it multiple times during the season. Advantage SEC. That’s why we just don’t Know how UCONN will react this year. Personally, I like it. I can watch and root for the Huskies not knowing the outcome.....for a change.

Personally, I think the Freshman are the least of our worries. They will compete at a high level and not be intimidated. Unfortunately, not so sure about the upper classman but I am hopeful they have turned the corner and will play like AA's (or even Honorable mentions)

I believe Paige will use her 5th year of eligibility and we will easily win 5 national titles in a row !!!!

So the message is for everyone to pump the breaks and ease up on the excitement for the future and also Stanford has the #1 player coming in 2 years?

if Azzi has fully recovered from her injury and the rest of the team stays away from the injury bug then I'd say their odds of winning an NA next season are pretty good.........if that back court is on it's game it's going to take a pretty remarkable feat to beat them......

With as much talent as UConn will have over the next 4-5 years they will be in the hunt for multiple championships. Do I see a 4 or 5 year streak of NCAA titles, nope. There is too much high end talent around the country for that to happen. Stanford and South Carolina aren't going anywhere and they are keeping up with UConn in the recruiting wars. Do I see multiple titles, I sure do but sheer dominance will not occur in this day and age.

I suggest you look at where most of the ranking services have their recruits ranked. Based on consensus, UConn has a significantly better class arriving.

I agree with you, this year, but next year may be different. I think it is entirely feasible that we could see another season (or two) where no team comes within single digits of us. Clearly not a sure thing but I believe it is entirely possible given the recruits coming in, the current team, the coaching staff, and the historical precedents set by this program.

Oh my God. Why are there Uconn fans being enthusiastic on a Uconn board? Stop that.
ScottCT is not speaking of enthusiasm, but speaking of being unreasonably optimistic. UConn will have some of the best talent but so did Baylor when they had Griner and they won only one NC. UCLA had the top recruiting class about four years ago and never made it to a FF. Some of the predictions have been very unrealistic, not about winning a NC but, winning so many in succession. Expectations may just be too high.

browns, shoulda, woulda, coulda . . . the last words of losers. Do. Or do not. There is no try. Isn't SC the team with more experience? Is UConn better than they were when they played SC? Hell yeah. Olivia 3-10, Christyn 3-11, and Evina 0-4. Total 6-25 / 24%. Do you think those 3 players will shoot 24% if we play SC again, or any team? Not a #$@%*& chance.
