first off good luck to the kid and i hope he turns into a great player and young man a couple years from now. he has a family member who lurks here, thanks for joining the uconn family and goodluck to scoe. is MD his #1? scoe won a ship with is a was a great piece for that team just like alex was. but there was a huge difference.

scoe was a highly ranked recruit we landed in what was our first doom year with the ncaa. remeber doug g on air telling scoe to leave uconn commit wise? wild ride for the kid i bet. scoe never developed in his 2 years. he flashed potential in a lot of areas of the game but never put it together. he also didn't hit the weight room as well as i though over the summer. that would be a visual of his jumping year 1 vs 2, how many shots he had blocked and rbs. he was good on d no doubt, but so are alot of guys at the 3 with his lenght/size. his offense never came around especially shooting the ball. every once in a while he would drain a mid range or 3 and i would think of he here comes...but it never got put together. we also here are used to wings that jump out of the gym and drive looking to asult people. scoe was neither of those, so the rudy and stix and caron types of stuff were used to didn't happen. JC's system doesn't work for scoe somewhat also becuas ehe can drive and he can't shoot, so all he could do was play good d, which he did. but that doesn't get you(scoe) what your looking for playing ball.

I would say im suprised he transfered, but i'm not. he needed to go elsewhere and find a way to develope his game becuase it wasn't happening here. early last season scoe was late to a class i was told which as punishment led him to not starting a couple games. dd got starts and those early games him and lamb were hot from the field and they took off. it took scoe a while to get back in it after that point. scoe needs to go somehwere new and start over with a transfer year off plus 2 more on the court. he still has the potential to blow up but he needs to put 100% into it from all angles.

the only reason why ppl are suprised by this is becuase we have a empty roster minus some guards and some raw big guys, so the pt here is so good why would any 1 leave. thats the thinking. but if you sit back and think about it its a obvious one. 2 guys looking like they could pass him at his spot among other reasons on the court that were yelled about all season. but all the pt here couldn't help scoe, hes needs a change. so be it. good luck mr. smith, we will all be rooting for you. thanks.

I disagree, I love his heart and his motor and I think that's the type of kid that can really turn it on under JC

lots of kids didn't do as well in their 1st year or two under JC, only to find that missing link and emerge as a star

it's kids that don't have the heart that I don't mind leaving

Pretty good defensive player, very hesitant on offense. Needs to get stronger.

Good luck Scoe.

I largely agree. He doesn't have the handle, shot, or quickness to play ahead of Omar Calhoun, DeAndre Daniels, or maybe even Niels Giffey at the 3. UConn has minutes at the 4 and he can be an outstanding college 4 and prepare to play the pro 3 at the college 4, but he has to want it - he has to commit to it, hit the weights, and develop the mentality of a banger and fighter down low. If that's not what he wants, and it doesn't seem like he's wanted it yet, then he can certainly find other schools that will let him play full-time at the 3. Cleveland Melvin had the same decision to make. I wish Roscoe the best, and thank him: without him the championship team loses in the first rounds of the BET and NCAA. Hope he flourishes elsewhere if he does leave, but would love to see him be the 4 for UConn next year.

I think that Roscoe has handled himself well as a Husky and imagine that last year was very difficult for him. I think that the main issue is his felt need to play at the 3. If he can find a school where he could really be featured at the 3, then maybe that would be best for him long-term. I think if he had NBA potential, we would have seen clear signs of it by now. I will be very happy for him if he can make a good living playing basketball in the NBA or elsewhere. He has always seemed like a great kid and I wish him the best of luck.

Roscoe is not a 3. He doesn't have the skillset. He may have a future niche in the NBA as a defensive 3 but that's a long shot.

Roscoe is a glue guy. His niche really is being an undersized, quicker, atheletic 4. Not once in two years did his skill set scream 3 to me. That being said, I loved Roscoe on the team and I loved the team with Roscoe on the floor. I really hate to see him go and wish him the best. I unfortunately think the best is for him to really focus on the skillset that makes him unique. Oh well, Good luck Scoe!

I don't get Roscoe's decision. In college, the difference between the 3 and 4 is pretty slim. He would have been picking up the best 3-5 every game on D. He would have started and played 35+ minutes a game for 2 years, and gotten every opportunity to show himself to the pro scouts. Why leave now and risk going somewhere where he can't get playing time? A lot can change in the year he is sitting at another school.

This is bad, and speaks to something else going on. The players are losing confidence in the program and each other. You don't see a kid that is basically guaranteed to start for the next two years leave because he wants to play the 3 instead of the 4.

couldnt agree more. Roscoe's departure hits hardest for what it actually symbolizes. i really feel that the coaching staff and to a larger extent, the fanbase, is relying to much on our past and fails to acknowledge what is actually going on. this season was a huge disappointment from player development(most kids played worse as season progressed) to actual results that i feel has more to do with the coaching staff than the players attitudes or team chemistry.

Roscoe is more than a "pretty good" defensive play. He is a terrific defensive player. Great motor. Athletic. Still working on his shot. He has the chance to be a very good overall player.

Exactly. Roscoe is a summer full of jump shots away from being a very good player. He has good mechanics so it's only a matter of practice and confidence. I believe Roscoe can become a very good player ala Robert Horry.

Except Robert Horry knew what to do with the ball with 10 seconds or less left.

I think he has to improve first and foremost in the confidence department. Things should fall into place when his head catches up with his athleticism.

"players are losing confidence in the program and each other". Pure speculation. Another over the top statement without any facts. Roscoe wanted to play the 3 and he just isn't the right player for that position at Uconn. He is only a 42% shooter and 24 % from 3. 65% from the line. Also he doesn't go to the hoop very well , probably because he doesn't have a good handle with the ball. His minutes were down from25 to 18 last year and he decided to move. It happens. We are one year removed from a NC. Need to give it a little time to see if there is a problem. Just don't see it yet.

Hopefully, Roscoe will use his transfer year to get ahead of his schoolwork on his way to a degree. I don't get all of the love for his "heart" here. I didn't notice any more or less heart from him than anyone else. I think "heart" is what folks like to say about a favorite player that can't shoot.

Does it make sense that a coaching staff that has been wildly successful for decades suddenly loses whatever made them successful overnight? I don't understand that logic.

I heard he left because calhoun wanted him to play more of a Power Forward. Roscoe didnt want to play that. He wanted to be the wing. Because if he is to make the NBA he wouldnt be a PF there. To go off and say Roscoe didnt hit the weight room hard is BS. You dont know if he did or not. Look at DeAndre Daniels you follow twitters, you w.ould know how frustrated DD is. All the time he is saying stuff about how all he does is eat and go to the gym and he cant put weight or muscle on. This board is becoming one big assumption. Also i recall countless people on here when Scoe went on that 3 or 4 game tear saying he was the "3rd scorer we needed behind Lamb and Bazz." Gotta love how quick people push you to the curb when you choose to leave. Who knows what his thinking is. And im sure not one of you guys know unless you are friends with him. Hell for all we know is he could be wanting to transfer down there because his g/f wants him to.

Noones close enough to him to push him to the curb, he's leaving so be it. Why harp on the one's who want to leave? He definitely worked out harder, thought he was bigger by a few pounds of muscle and mabye has that frame which is tough to add bulk lbs.... that's fine......but heck I would rather have had the same weighted kid who was a frosh with a better handle, passing ability and mid range game which didn't happen......good kid, good defender and good rebounder most of the time but again, if he wants out someone else will take his place..........are we to kiss these guys respective a**es when they bow out????

Just depends on the lineup you have and how you let your 3/4 players run........he could've played the 4 on D and the 3 on offense if he had the ability unfortunately his talenst lead him down the 4 path as a Husky, and a tweener for the most part......

He wants to be a featured 3 and wasn't going to do that @ UConn, so wish him well. I don't think he can develop into a 3 or 4 for the league, but he is going to try.

This makes sense. A wing has to be able to make shots. Roscoe is KS. If he showed any improvement from last year to this from the field, perhaps JC wouldn't be pushing PF.

If Roscoe developed into a dependable outside shooter and could take guys off the dribble, he would have chances to do that, no matter what his technical position was. Did Donny Marshall or Travis Knight have to stay down low and just post up? Of course not. They had an advantage when they would take slower big guys away from the basket. Coaches spend most of their time looking for mismatches, and if Roscoe developed into one offensively, he would have had plenty of opportunities to exploit whatever kills he developed.

On defense, Roscoe would be getting experience covering the best 3-5 on the other team, which NBA scouts would love.

Most NBA forwards and even 2 guards generally played at least one slot up in college because most college teams don't have a lot of height, so Roscoe playing the 4 at UConn but targeting the 3 in the NBA would be fairly typical of most forwards. The "I wanted to play Small Forward" argument doesn't hold for a guy that was going to be getting 35+ minutes per game for the next two years and be the third option on offense, for a team that looks at least pretty competitive on paper. Something else is going on.

I don't get Roscoe's decision. In college, the difference between the 3 and 4 is pretty slim.

This is true at just about every school besides UConn since the early 2000's. In the 90's the kind of player we featured at the 4 included Donny Marshall and Kevin Freeman, guys with similar size and skills as Roscoe.

But in the early 2000's JC went bigger, with 2 pure post players (e.g. Okafor and Selvie, Okafor and Boone) and 3 guards. Then in the mid-2000's JC wanted an even bigger lineup, with two pure post players (Boone and Armstrong, Adrien and Thabeet, Drummond and Oriakhi) and a 3 that was more of a forward than a guard. This is where the Rudy-Sticks-Roscoe lineage comes from.

Personnel would force Roscoe to play the 4 next year. And the way JC has constructed his offense over the last decade, the 4 is pretty much restricted to the post, while Roscoe wants to be featured on the wing (whether his skills merit that or not).

I'd comment that most college teams play a guy like Roscoe at the 4, but that their 4 is typically a guy who can play some on the wing: Jae Crowder, Joe Alexander, Kyle Singler come to mind.

djct1999 - Really ?? One year removed from a national championship and the coaching staff sucks ? Just plain stupid.

i am sorry. ranked 4th in the preseason. picked to finish top 3 in big east. atleast 3 kids transfering. 2013 postseason ban for a horrible apr. guess you are right. this has nothing to do with the coaching staff. its ao's fault. maybe a bit scoe's as well. its all about the media's inaccurate reporting and certainly 100% the ncaa's fault. the coaching staff has nothing to do with it. posters like you need to face reality. you refuse to take any accountablitiy much like the staff itself. there should be a statue of coach calhoun outside of gampel for all that he has accomplished but that doesnt mean what has transpired is a complete disgrace. rather than give the entire staff immunity for shocking everyone with one of the best runs in the history of collegiate atheletics, maybe instead use that as a barometer for how far we have fallen in exactly 1 year. 1 year!!!!!! stop blaming everyone else for uconn's misfortune. and for the record, i never said the staff sucked. i suggested that for the past year, they have not reached anything close to the standards calhoun has set over the past 20 years. i would ask you to explain to me how uconn will lose out on a recruit to cincy but i suppose you will say its the kid's fault for not acknowledging uconn's rich history or for wanting to play for a hall of fame coach, etc. etc. etc. get real. this staff hasto start taking accountability for why we are here and admit that they are falling far below the same bar calhoun once set so high. it would also help for the fanbase to do the same. ah nevermind, we won a championship in 2011. its all good in husky land.
