When the games are close missed free throws can come back to haunt you The women are going to have to do better than the men did today and better than they did in their big non-conference games this year or things can get a little dicey in the later rounds.

It started with the mens team ice cold from outside. UCONN had ridiculous off rebound edge and could not convert. And that was just the beginning.

Why is the men's game being discussed here? Click bait thread title?????
The topic is about how missed free throws can come back to haunt you in close games with the men's game being a case and point.

Yeah if they hit 100% of their free throws they still needed to shoot better from the field. Hard to lose when you grab 22 offensive boards and out rebound your opponent by 11, unless you shoot under 33% from the field while you are giving up shots at 50% from two and from three! The lesson is not about free throws. Everything else (assists, TO, blocks, fouls, steals) was basically even. Put the ball through the basket efficiently, and stop the other guy from doing the same is sort of like BB 101 in the curriculum.

The men’s team has been a bad free-throw shooting team all season and it’s cost them some games. Theyve also been inexplicably bad at making layups...been a knock on them all year and it cost them.

Have to admit when watching the Men's game, I did think this reminds me of the early season Women's game. How the women would go long stretches of missing wide open shots and couldn't buy a basket. The men were able to stay in the game because of their defense was good for long stretches of the game. Just like the women did and do most games. However unlike the Women, Maryland had equal talent and were able to get the win.

10-seed Maryland gets a 63-54 win over 7-seed UConn. All 14.7 million Tournament Challenge brackets are officially busted.
