Let's quit playing games and pretending keeping PP was entirely Susan/Warde's call. Let's quit playing games that Warde's apparent "hands off PP's staff" policy is entirely Warde's doing.

Larry McHugh, the chairman of UConn's Board of Trustees and former Xavier football coach, called Pasqualoni a perfect role model for young coaches in the state..
"His integrity and his passion for that game of football just comes out and he never forgot his roots and people know that and that's why all these coaches are here and why they think so highly of him," McHugh said. "He's never forgot the guys in this state and they knew he was always a phone call and away and always willing to give them his time."

That article is so sickening on so many levels now. . . "the ICONS of high school football in this state" .. . . . Yep, legends in their own minds.

PLEASE, for the next hire, PLEASE keep the CT HS coaches as far away from the process as possible.

Okay - LMcH stands on top of Gampel and screams "it was all my idea"...

Then what?

In this instance LMcH is an owner, the owner who did the hiring. Think the owner should listen to the fans?

If "role model" means hiring your inept best friend to be an assistant and sticking by him at all costs, CT high school football is screwed.

So wait...because he said some nice things about our then-brand new football coach in a two-year old Courant article, we should demand some sort of public prostration from the man?

All righty!

Since we're making requests, I'd like all of the insane people here to adopt some sort of common avatar so that we can spot 'em at a distance.

I agree with Fishy and Jimmy. Let's get back to talking about football. Incoming recruits. Spring Game. Possibilities of Jimmy Bennett and Jesse Joseph getting approved extra years. New linebacking corps. Possibilities for new running backs coach or defensive coordinator. Anything....just say anything.....about football...

Say, speaking as a Vikings' fan, I don't think that Joe Webb fella is a particularly good quarterback.

He broke a window in my house with one of those overthrows.

Additionally, it looks like Pitt got pimp-slapped in a bowl game again...

Then we'll know the chairman of Board of Trustees doesn't give a rat's ass about what the fans think and is willing to put old-boy network connections first and settle for proven mediocrity and worse over real excellence.
No offense meant but you are going in circles. One of them you are not is Larry's circle. I am sure the few of us that post here are not in his breakfast club which is quite large and well off. They are the fans that adore him and the ones he would listen to and actually give a rats pattutie about what they think.
As for the rest of us we have to wait out one more season. No pressure we can put on Larry will have any effect what so ever. He is a proud duck in the rain.
Next seasons on the field performance and attendance will decide the coaching staffs fate and little else. Just say'n......

Woof I am interested to see McHugh's take on this thing after next season. I can't see Pasqualoni doing enough to keep his job...and if he does bring GDL back aside from Michigan and posdibly MD games you will see crowds like were at the start of the Pitt game this season. Crickets McHugh definitley will hear if his buddy Paul doesn't get it...and I definitelt think he doesn't get it!

Fish, the point of the OP is that McHugh has managed to avoid any responsibility for the decision to retain PP despite all the accumulated evidence the program is and will continue to go backwards with him in charge. OK, it's a two-year-old quote. How about some intrepid member of the Horde calling Larry up and getting a fresh one? "I support PP/GDL" "I don't get involved in personnel decisions".

I suspect that if someone else who didn't have deep ties to the self-important CT HS football coaches assn was UConn's BOT president, Susan and or Warde might have pulled the trigger on Dec. 2 or at the very least done a lot more than "suggest" PP make major changes on his staff. You did notice the short-lived parade on this board Thursday celebrating GDL's departure, right? All those ppl insane too?

What's insane to me is keeping someone in an important, high-profile job he is failing only because he's good buddies with the guy who is charge of the hiring/firing and wants to keep pretending he's a playa in the world of big-time college football.

Do you have any knowledge of such? Or are you just speculating?

Cause I'm sure Larry doesn't want to win. I'm sure he'd rather pay his friends and be embarrassed at the results.

Maybe he thought PP would be a good hire. Maybe the plan was always 3 years unless it was a catastrophe. Maybe people's definition of catastrophe is different, and maybe 5-7 doesn't meet that in his mind.

Lane Kiffin didn't get fired either and that 7-6 record he put up as preseason number 1 is 200000x more embarrassing than what we went through.

I know some of you want blood but it is tiresome.

As a Viking fan now living in Minneapolis, the build-up for the game here was unbelievable. To have them come in on such a hot streak and then lay an egg was very disheartening.

Wait, I thought we were working our way up the food chain? PP didn't fire GDL, so then we wanted PP fired. WM didn't fire PP, so we want to fire WM. SH didn't fire WM so now we want to fire SH. The next logical step isn't McHugh, it would have to be Dan Malloy, right? Unless wanting to fire McHugh comes is supposed to be in between WM and SH, and the angry mob just jumped the gun on the SH firing. So thanks ruskin for reminding us we skipped a step.

Have to agree with Ruskin. McH made the decision on PP and furthermore he along with Susan and WM will make the move to axe him next year if we go less than 7-5 . They saw him as a safe choice.

Not 100% sure, but I think that the use of this picture on the football board may be a hanging offense.

I don't want McHugh's blood. From what I know he's done a good job overall with the BOT in academic and other non-athletic areas. But, sadly, this is a typical Connecticut good-old-boy-network situation where who you know as a state employee is more important than your actual job performance. LMcH's personal relationship with PP - including recruiting him for this job - is clouding his judgement. He probably should have stayed out of the hiring process in the first place and darn sure should not be involved in decision to retain him.

The Lane Kiffin reference is a red herring. No matter what happens USC is guaranteed a spot at the big-boy table. The hire of PP - and his and GDL's continued employment - has sent a message to the rest of the world that UConn, despite the $150 million plus invested in football, really isn't taking football seriously at the worst possible time.
