I am really surprised. I think she was our top target and we prioritized her over others. Like I said before. I thought it was a lock. I wasn’t worried about a coach that has coached two collegiate games.

I ended up being wrong.

Rebuilsing once great teams seems common. Prawl had stated she wants to restore Tennessee to its dynasty form.

I figured this out yesterday when I noticed the Card’s WBB instagram account was following her as of yesterday.
With that said, it’s a bummer she didn’t choose UConn. On to the next one

While it would have been nice...It gives some else the opportunity of a lifetime.
Best wishes to Lara. Academics? Of course, Kaitlyn Chen did come to UCONN for basketball.
I'll try not to be sore loser.... It's Hard! Ouch!

This was totally predictable. All four of UConn’s post players are either Freshmen or Sophomores and Sara is a lock for four years at the four. There was very little playing time available. They now have an extra slot for that dynamite 2026 class.

Wow was shocked by this development late into the early signing period. Really thought she had UCoNN all the way

Pretty much takes a another 2025 big off the table unless there is a foreign surprise. If this means an open spot, however, it may make a 4 from the portal for next year a real possibility.

Speculating on recruiting, I’ve always found to be just an expression of what people want to happen
Not a whole lot by based anything factual
A few things I believe, though are true especially when it comes to Coach GA and recruiting
Generally speaking those who commit to UConn, do it fairly early in the process
The only player that I can think of that came down to the wire it was Azzii
Sara, strong wait until the spring signing.but
From what has been reported she was always committed to going to UConn from early on
When Gino went to Italy, it seem like a pretty good sign that Ms Somfil would not be likely to come toUconn
UConn as long as Geno is the coach will continue
To get very good players (as Will other schools)
The key is get players like SS who in
Genos words “change the trajectory of the program “
I don’t believe anyone they were recruiting this year
Are at that level
2026 will be the key year for recruiting as there
Are a few players that could be game changers
And lastly the three players coming next year fit perfectly as they are all extremely athletic players
Which are a perfect fit for the many very skilled players currently on the team

You think Brady or Patterson was going to block Somfai? Not a chance.

Strong can play just about anywhere. She wouldn't have impeded Somfai either.

Stanford diploma hard to turn down. Plus a lot of Australians hang out in California I guess because it's the only part of the country you can reasonably travel to from the motherland.

Brady and Patterson were both Top 5 recruits; Somfai isn’t anywhere close to that.

I agree. IMO Somfai would be considered ahead of Ayanna, Ice and Gandy and at a minimum would have made it pretty likely we could have a terrific three big rotation with Sarah and Jana even if we didn't have to rely on any of the previous three. The first two have under-performed their HS rankings at least thus far, and Gandy is a project that might be pretty good, but there is a lot of uncertainty there.

The really exciting possibility would have been a starting lineup of Sarah at the 3, Lara the 4, Jana the 5, and Ayanna, Ice and Gandy turning into high level backups. The probability of Sarah spending much time at the 3 next year just went down substantially i think.

Geno will have the rest of the year to assess things upfront. If Ayanna and or Ice make major progress he could stand pat, but if they don't make a big leap I would look at the portal for a 4 if I were him.

What their rankings in high school were won't determine who does what in college.

Also, Laflin just rated Somfai as the 8th best recruit out of all classes.

I'm surprised, though not shocked as other players have been thought of as UConn bound such as Boston, but I really felt Lara was primed for UConn!
