I would be shocked if it isn't uconn. This to me is a lot like Strong from last year.

I believe UConn has given her developmental advice and suggestions for two years. And I even believe UConn played a role in the decision to play high school basketball in the United States.

Edit: She has a poll on her IG page. Go vote for UConn.

Her final 3 are UConn, Duke & Stanford. Her parents reportedly favor Stanford. If the Pac12 was still around and Tara was still the HC, she would likely end up in Palo Alto. But realignment has altered college sports. Hoping for good news, but not particularly confident on Somfai’s decision.

I hope her choice is UCONNJ. I read some place that Somfai is 6'4", another big to continue UCONN's dominance in the future. Are we creating another dynasty. In 2 years UCONN coluld have two 6'5"'s and two 6'4"'s starting games, UCONN WILL BE BAD FOR WOMEN'S BB AGAIN

It seems like parents always favor Stanford. Academically and socially it's a huge status symbol to say "My kid goes to Stanford".

I am tired of losing tall girls-Toomey, Boston. I worry that Lara is looking at the competition for minutes the next few years. Strong, ICE, Jana, Gandy, Patterson. Tough to break into that group for playing time with none of them even Juniors next year.

I’ve gotta say, it’s difficult to see the reasoning that would lesd her to commit here. She’s basically going to be battling Jana, Ice, Sarah, Morgan, Blanca, and possibly Caroline. Where are her minutes coming from? She sounds great for us but I’m just not seeing it.

Ice, Jana, Morgan, and Blanca certainly haven’t nailed down spots here. If we have an offer out it is because we see a need.

If Blanca is a pivot. She is a pivot for Makeer or Davidson not Somfai.

Clearly we have been trying to get a player like somfai in this class. We were interested in the very similar Leah Macy.

here's a possible reasoning:

it's a new era, the portal era. u can move to another school if you don't find your 'dream school' isn't right for you after giving it a try, and there is no penalty except a delay in finding your right path.

... and what would be the reason for not going after your dream? well, you might be unsure that you can 'make it' at your fav school, you might not like the climate or teammates or coaches or culture there after you've experienced it. you might not be good enough to beat out huskies already competing at your position. all are legit reasons. basically, you're afraid.

but if you're a high school kid with notable abilities (obviously if uconn has even invited you then someone thinks you have the abilities) it would be downright foolish, self-defeating and sad not to take the chance. the worst that could happen is your fears were justified, and you lost one year chasing your dream without success. ONE YEAR.

and even then you've experienced a year of new adventure ... and have gained a year of the best basketball training possible.

and you would be proud for the rest of your life that you went for your dream, and fear didn't win.

ps: i'm talking the player's perspective -- not the BY fan's. a fan is just concerned with the team, not the individual.

I don't view her as a small forward.........I think she's more of a 4 with the freedom and the ability to score inside and out.......if she shares the court with Jana and Sara that will be a pretty powerful front court.........

I do think there is a logical path to major playing time for her, but I will start with the competitors. Position wise, I think she is a better fit at the 4 than Morgan, Blanca or Caroline who are possible 4's, but more 3's, or 3/4's. Ice has done nothing IMO to indicate she would be ahead of Lara at the 4, but might be at the 5.

Sarah because of her perimeter skills does not have to be an obstacle in Lara's way, because she could be the starter next year at the 3, next to Lara at the 4. This year we need Sarah mostly at the 4. next year could be just the opposite. Paige could very well get most of the minutes at the 3 this year, but obviously will play many positions. She and maybe Caroline will be gone. Upfront no departures and two major additions in Gandy and hopefully Lara.

If Sarah wants to be more on the perimeter, a starting lineup with Sarah, Lara, and Jana has more potential than any other combination of positions 3-5 that I can think of. If you pencil Sarah in for 30+ minutes just at the 4, I understand the concern, but right now I would consider Sarah her only serious competition at the 4, and I see Sarah as likely to be playing as much at the 3 next year, with a pretty good chance she starts there if Lara comes.

Lara moved to the US because she knew the US game would develop her the best. Which means she knows her future is basketball. And out of her final three choices, which school has the best track record of developing talent? She knows this. With that said. I’d be surprised if it anywhere but UConn. But I’ll still be nervous until Wednesday, especially with her family pushing hard for academics
