OT: Kyrie Irving

Such a terrible man. How could he have the nerve?

Starting to take Kyrie's side on this the more I think about it. The shutdown has unwittingly steered people towards the darkest alleys of society and intensified their urge to reform them. Bring back all the distractions and that fight weakens considerably.

So having millions of national televised eyeballs on you for 4-months is a bad thing?

What?? The circumstances that enabled UConn to fire him without receiving public backlash was the fact that it was clearly with just cause. We just ignoring the fact that he also has a show-cause order from the NCAA that bans him from coaching for several years? Or is that racism from the NCAA too? I’m not downplaying the state of race relations in today’s world, but to call this systemic racism is ridiculous.
Man people just can't leave KO out of anything
Sad
As far as Kyrie is concerned - who really care what he says or does
He's an athlete, like so many of them, who get paid boat loads of money and they feel that gives them the right to pontificate.
He was a pain in Cleveland, a pain in Boston and now establishing his version of Pain in Brooklyn
So much talent so little common sense

IMO we are at the point that the pendulum needs to swing uncomfortably the other way. Was Ollie’s treatment at all effected by his race? Maybe. Maybe not. But champs bringing it up is reasonable and hopefully a healthy conversation that we can have these days without getting so defensive.

There's a reasonable discussion to be had. The source being Champs is why it's being met with so much criticism. He abandoned the entire UConn basketball program because of KO being fired

Go ahead. Start this alleged reasonable discussion. Make the case. Lay out the premises that would allow someone to arrive at the conclusion that fewer people cared about a losing coach getting fired, after violating his own contract while running his ship aground, on the basis of said loser’s race. Show us how the reaction is a manifestation of systemic racism (and define “systemic racism” while you’re at it).

@champs99and04 clearly wasn’t interested in doing it himself.

I think you completely took what I said out of context, or I didn't make it clear. I'm just talking about reasonable discussions about Kevin Ollie so calm down. I'm in no way defending anything Champs said and thought that was obvious

Fair enough, you sure seemed to lend credence to a post that sure seemed to lend credence to his post.

I can see that interpretation now, but not at all what I meant. I was just trying to advocate for a healthy discussion, I would certainly not be on their side if that discussion happened

You mean to make a spectacle of himself and ask them to do what they were already doing?
He's the VP of the players union, did you expect him to not raise concerns?

I expect him to do it during the many many normal course of business calls they’ve already had about coming back.

Bubble ball hasn’t been a mystery until yesterday. It’s been in the cards for a while now.

I guess I can see this but they had a call on Friday and a significant amount of time was spent discussing the racial issues occuring in the country which is why it came up now. And this is not a rogue Kyrie statement. I'm not expecting everyone to agree with what they're saying, just arguing against the idea of typical selfish Kyrie

LOL. This is the crowd that would have hated Dr. King and Ali in the 60s, then claimed them as heroes 20 years after the fact when it was en vogue and easy.

Meh, I get that point and I definitely am not against kyrie and his opinion on this matter. I appreciate him speaking up if that’s what he thinks. I just find him to be a bit of a phony, so when this is the 50th example of that, it’s tougher to give him the benefit.

I think comparing this one statement to Ali and MLK is a BIT much.

Kyrie has no idea what's the right thing to do or why, Kyrie is about Kyrie and nobody butt Kyrie.

I'm one C's fan that wanted him gone, he's the modern day Stephon Starbury, teams get better when he leaves town.

I was disappointed Big Al left, and I miss Morris and AB and IT, but I can't stand Kyrie.

Kyries thoughts are in the right place but his thoughts on things in general seem to be all over the place. Don't take this the wrong way but it seems to me that he has a form of autism. I wouldnt surprised if he has a case of ADHD. Don't get me wrong he seems to be a great guy that doesn't mean hes a great teammate.

Because you didn’t like kyrie the player seems to be influencing why you don’t like his opinion here. This seems to be why a lot of people aren’t respecting what he’s saying.

I'm like that, if I disrespect a man then I disrespect a man

Funny how that works

I also think really stupid people sometimes have too much to say, Kyrie fits that description as well. I'm not looking to Kyrie for advice on anything in life

It's just as much because of his history of saying/believing/doing ridiculous things. He's such a phony. The flat-earther stuff is just a small part of it. His silly cryptic social media posts, spewing pseudointellectual nonsense, and being an all-around dick. This dude tries so hard to get people to believe he's a worldly, deep, intelligent dude and it's such a transparent schtick.

The story is so funny of Brad Stevens saying good morning to Kyrie at the team facilities and Kyrie responding with "what does the word 'government' mean to you?". Kyrie is like that 13-year-old who just discovered conspiracy theories channels on YouTube.

“When I was out for those seven weeks and not saying anything and still people are still saying things about me,” Irving said, via YES Network. “It’s inevitable. They crucified Martin Luther King for speaking about peace and social integration.“

Um, what? Quite the leap there to make that connection, Kyrie!

At the completion of the regular season, the team set up 100 balls in a room for their charitable partners. Everyone signed the balls except Irving. When pressed to do it, say team sources, he was neither aggressive nor confrontational. He merely said, "No, I'm not interested in that."

Solid way to behave.

Again, fluffing up his own intelligence...

"I've been playing basketball a lot longer than some of these people analyzing the game," Irving says. "I'm an actual genius when it comes to this game.

Plus he loves throwing his teammates under the bus and being a pouty, spoiled millionaire athlete.

And now he's out here saying the NBA looking to resume the season is "fishy". Those are some major implications against the league, the same league that happens to be by far the most supportive and progressive league in the country when it comes to social justice and reform.

See my first post in this thread - spoiler alert: I agree. “Phony” and “tries hard to be way smarter and deeper than he is” are my exact criticisms and, on top of him being selfish and not really making his teams better, those are my main issues with the dude.

He’s lost any benefit of the doubt as far as listening to his points, for me anyway.

Nothing is stopping Kyrie from “giving it all up” for the cause.

I applaud him for trying to get more voices heard. But I believe the NBA is not forcing players to go. If you don’t want to play.....don’t play. Forfeit the remaining salary. Maybe the NBA can donate the money to certain causes agreed upon with PA.

Kyrie just comes off as a conspiracy nut, saying that the bubble is fishy. I’m pretty sure the idea of the bubble was being discussed well before the GF murder.

Also, does he somehow think that the issues in US could be fixed in 4 months and that by participating in the bubble is the only thing that will prevent this?

His head and heart are in the right place but some of the things he is saying are misguided.

It seems you are finding fault with the messanger not the message , as you may have heard many players agree with his stance that coming back may have a negative impact on the social justice initiatives taking place.

good call with kyrie having autism

If I knew what his message was, chances are I wouldn't have much trouble punching holes in it. I doubt it's something scholarly
