No. Worst case is he's a Darius Smith who transfers out after 1 year and is an 0-2 on the APR.

The difference (I hope) between Samuel and guys like D. Smith and Jamaal Trice is that Smith and Trice were late signees - guys that we picked up in the spring after most of the impact guys were off the board.

Samuel is a guy that the staff liked enough to take a commitment from early, even though some of our other highly rated guard targets are still on the board. That should say something.

I think the bottom line is that it will be a bit of a disappointment if Facey and Samuel end up headlining this class. But if they are, say, the 3rd and 4th best recruits we land in 2013, that would be terrific. If these guys end up being Austrie/Edwards or even Beverly/Okwandu, that wouldn't be the end of the world. Both of those combinations played on Final Four teams.

not if everyone wants ollie especially the recruits... if he gets the job he should get a 6 year contract so he can get the recruits he wants and implement a system that can be adjusted and seen nationally.... he needs more then 4 to get recruits and the system he wants
You are foolish if you think that. If he gets the job because Calhoun pulled out at the 11th hour, he will never be legitimate, and Manual will likely dump him the first chance he gets...as he should frankly. He will be under absolutely incredible pressure to win and do it right away. It would not be good for UConn, it would not be good for Calhoun and his legacy to play that game, nor would it be good for Ollie. In fact if Calhoun pulled something like that, and I don't believe he would, I would expect that he will be effectively persona non grata in the athletic department for a long time, and Ollie will be viewed by most honest thinking people as someone who didn't deserve the job he got. He will have maybe 2 years to produce big time. If he fails, he will be gone.

I'm sorry, but if Calhoun does this last minute retirement thing just to get Ollie as HC, then he isn't acting in the best interests of UConn.
Manual's job is to hire coaches as needed. For Calhoun to force Manual's hand under tight circumstances would be quite unfair to everybody involved within the program.
It's called the Dean Smith move. It's perfectly legal in some circles, although at UNC anything goes.

Could be wrong - but for the first time I believe JC will be hanging it up. No disrespect to anyone but when you look at his front line - not one tough guy type. Sure they have other strengths - but he needs a couple guys who are warriors. I don't think he needs the aggrevation especially given his health issues. He only knows 110% commitment to winning - this season would take too much out of him. I think he knows that.
